It is very disappointing that Trinidad and Tobago may not be represented this year at Miss Universe or even Miss World. For such a rich country there should not be any problems with sending someone to represent Trinidad and Tobago. It is a shame that T&T has done so well for so long to not be represented this year.It seems as though other countries hold Miss T&T's in higher esteem sometimes than some people in T&T or rather the government. Angola was recently welcoming former Miss Universe Wendy Fitzwilliam to their country. Eleven years after she won Miss universe she is still making T&T proud. It is truly a disappointment that the T&T government or any of the big companies that can sponsor a Miss T&T, have not done so consistantly. Many countries who do not have the resources that T&T has have sent delegates to the international stage every year. A lot of other countries have not reached any where close to T&T's success on the world stage yet always seems to be able to send someone to represent their country each year.

There is still enough time to chose someone to go to Miss Universe this year and Miss World. I hope that by the time Miss Universe starts we will see Miss Trinidad and Tobago's name up there with the list of contestants.

The Miss Universe Pageant is also being held in the caribbean this year. This could be T&T's year to win again. Come on T&T send someone to represent the country. These ladies have continued to make thier country proud and promote it in a positive way even beyond their reign.

Check out the Miss Bahamas Universe website. There are some amazing girls who are competing for the chance of placing at the top 15 at Miss Universe in August:

http://www.missbahamas.org/.

My favorites are Camille Kenny, Amanda Applewood, Jade Strachan, Kiara Sherman, Alexandra Deal, and Sharie Delva.

It is really sad that Trinidad & Tobago will not be represented this year at Miss Universe. With the pageant being held in the Caribbean, TnT would have had a great chance to bring the Miss Universe crown back to Trinidad, especially considering that it is 10 years this year since Trinidad last hosted the Miss Universe Pageant. It would be awesome to have either Valene M. or Gabrielle W. represent TnT. I am sure that either one of them could win the title.

...the more they open their mouths the more petty and stupid they appear. All this shi% about TT$300,000 to send a "TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO" to the world stage being too excessive, and then they turn around and spend over 300 million of we (taxpapers') money without thinking twice just so Manning could feel better about himself on paper-because that was all I see this summit being about.

for a summit we still eh see no benefit from, I would think that someone from Tidco would at least make an effort to send Gabrielle to Miss Universe 2009. As usual though, I am expecting them to do nothing but talk.

To think that the Miss Universe Pageant will be held in the Caribbean this year and Trinidad and Tobago may not be represented is very shameful. Trinidad and Tobago is such a rich country. There should not be a problem to send a delegate to both Miss Universe and Miss World. It seems as though some people like to take the glory when a representitive from T&T does well but are unwilling to contribute to helping these individuals reach to the point where they are world class.

I hope to see a Miss T&T at both Miss Universe and Miss World this year. There are so many girls who can do great if given the chance.

Even if there is not enough time to have a local pageant to select someone. There are girls who dont need alot of training that could be sent and easily win either international pageants. Gabrielle Walcott is a great example. If she is sent she can easily win Miss Universe.

Here are my early picks for MU2009:
    Australia
    Puerto Rico
USA (she is just a plane pretty american girl, nothing noteworthy but she is MUSA so she is guaranteed a top 10 placement at the least)
    Czech Republic
    France
    Ukraine
    Switzerland

Others who I need to see more of: Mexico, Columbia, Angola, South Africa

There is still enough time to send a delegate to the Miss Universe pageant this year. This could be a great oppertunity again for T&T to win the Miss Universe title. I think if T&T dont send a delegate this year they will be missing out on a very good chance of winning the third crown.

Why has there not been a new franchise holder yet?. Is PE&A still the franchise holders?. I was hoping that PE&A hold on to one of the local franchises. Either Miss Universe or Miss World. Maybe he should re-consider his decision and continue with the great work he has done, for the people who support him and the country.

This is will be really disappointing again if there is no delegate. T&T has done so well for many years. T&T is a rich enough country to send delegates every year. There should never be a problem to send a delegate because of financial problems.

To PE&A if you are reading this. Please continue with your good work and re-consider your decision and try to send a delegate to Miss Universe this year.

Kesha Quash is the most friendly, elegant delegate we have ever had in this country and when given the chance if she accept, then we would have another MU/MW until that time i say good luck to all the lady's. To the guy that has a problem with Kesha, a little advice, get over yourself. I attend SBCS and whenever i see KESHA QUASH i know she's going to be very successful in whatever she does. Since Peter & Co don't have to worry with the Miss T&T franchise anymore, a great way for him to make some money is to start offering his training services to other countries that haven't had much success in the pageant circuit. Other nations that ironically, have much less money than T&T, are able to send delegates but don't always do well due to lack of proper training. Peter & Co can offer their fine training and prepping services to other nations or franchises for a "good" price plus he already has a proven successful track record with Miss T&T. I don't think Miss T&T will ever be this good again now that he is not in charge.

I am waiting with bated breath for what the minister has to say. Congratulations to the minister for single handedly killing PE&A. I know Peter Elias is a serious man, so when he says it is over it over! That being said, we know Pete, Alyson, Adrian and Bobby have a passion for this thing. I believe that whoever ends up with the franchises, this group will be glad to assist, BUT we have to remember they will not be able to do so much anymore because you don't want to overstep your boundaries. I hope TIDCO takes over the franchise though.

    Newsday Newspapers
Cheers as Miss TT returns home
    Tuesday, December 16 2008

GABRIELLE WALCOTT, second runner-up in the Miss World Pageant, got a rousing VIP welcome at Piarco International Airport when she returned home from South Africa last night.

Gabrielle was originally scheduled to return home tomorrow night but decided to return home earlier because she is anxious to be with her father, Derek Walcott, one of her most ardent supporters. In fact, she quoted her father in answer to a question during the final round if the competition on Saturday.

Her father, a Roman Catholic deacon, was among those eagerly awaiting the chance to greet the world-class beauty as she stepped off her flight. Gabrielle mother and grandmother, who were with her in South Africa, are due to arrive home via New York later today. Her chaperone, Allyson Brown, who stopped off in London, arrives tomorrow evening.

Last night Gabrielle was wined and dined during a reception at the airport’s VIP Lounge hosted by the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs. The Minister, Marlene McDonald, Parliamentary Secretary Junia Regrello and other government officials were part of the delegation on hand to welcome her home.

Also on hand was Peter Elias, franchaise holder for the pageant.

“It is a fantastic feeling to be part of something like this that brings national pride,” he remarked just before Gabrielle’s flight touched down at Piarco.
    ******************************************************************************

I am pretty much resigned to the fact that we will not be attending MU09. It will be interesting to see what the government comes up with in January-as pgwizz said I don't think they care. As Peter said, Gabrielle is probably our last MT&T at either MU or MW for a very long time to come. This government is hopeless. They are doing nothing to make a dent in crime, the police need policing themselves and they don't care about promoting brand Trinidad and Tobago internationally, only dining foreign dignitaries on public money so they can get personal praise from these visitors to prop up their all mighty egos.

This is the worst government in the history of T&T in my opinion. What a mess they are.

...Barbados, Puerto Rico and Trinidad and Tobago are the only Caribbean entrants to make it to the semis. I am surprised that Bahamas did not make the cut. I guess DR's "deer in the headlights" look did not go over well with the judges. As I said, if she was a couple years more older maybe she could have gotten over that "lost" look. I still think she is beautiful though.

..Angola (2nd) and India was 3rd. O.K. As I said before Russia and Mexico are the 2 to beat but now I officially think that the heavy favorite is Russia.

After this fast track, here is what I think (again-I know):
QOAfrica -South Africa (expect Angola to make the top 15 though)
Queen of Asia -India (expect Lebanon and Philippines [people's choice] to make the semis)
Queen of Europe-Russia/Spain (I don't see Ukraine winning this regional title at all; I still think Spain is boring but she had alot of time to prepare for interviews after her crowning)
Queen of Caribbean-T&T/PR (forget everyone else; Bahamas could place but I am not too sure anymore)
Queen of the Americas-Venezuela or Mexico (no one else could win the regional title; something tells me Venezuela will pull a surprise regional win.)

Pray Gabby nails the interview! I know Wilnela will want PR to get the regional title.

My take is for both Top Model and Beach Beauty height would be a factor. I mean even in swimsuit, not matter how amazing your body is, the taller girls will have that extra something....because their legs go on for miles.
Same for Top Model. Models dont even have to be pretty, just tall. But from not on its all about Interview and Presentation for her, so I believe she can make Top 5 like Valene.

I agree with you a bit on this smurfgyrl. I think in regards to these mini contest like the top model and beach beauty that height do play a part in chosing the winner and usually the taller girls come out on top. The reason is because they are just looking for that one thing in the girls and not the overall attributes of a Miss World. However, as I have once said that in chosing the overall winner of the Miss World crown, height dont really matter. Especially in Regards to Miss World.

I think generally, height is not a major issue in beauty pageants these days. Its more about the girl and who she is and what she represents. if she is short and has a good body and the charisma/right personality. She can win. I am so proud of Gabby and how well she has done so far. I know she will shine even more. I think she has a great chance at beauty with a purpose. She needs to nail her interview. I think thats where she will seperate herself from alot of the girls. Go Gabby

I agree in the overall show its not a big issue but these smaller competitions yes, they want a certain look. PR is a surprise for me, but that might be all politics there.

Gabby is continuing to be noticed and doing well. I am still sruprised that Puerto Rico made it once again. I just dont see Puerto Rico as a top contender. I think they are trying hard to put Puerto rico up there. Its going to be between Gabby and Puerto Rico for the Queen of the Caribbean title. Gabby needs to seal the deal with her interview and how she presents herself. I think she can do it. I also hope she does well in the Beauty with a Purpose fast track.

    this is very sad:

    http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0WTTkvK3XlJGjQAYhnQtDMD;_ylu=X3oDMTBjMHZkMjZyBHBvcwMxBHNlYwNzcg--/SIG=13t35pfss/EXP=1232809802/**http%3a//www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/01/23/model.bridi.amputated.brazil/index.html%3fsection=cnn_latest

(CNN) -- The family of a 20-year-old Brazilian model who is fighting for her life after having her hands and feet amputated have urged her supporters around the world to keep praying for their daughter.

Brazilian model Mariana Bridi is in a serious condition in hospital after undergoing multiple amputations.

A blog created to provide updates on Mariana Bridi da Costa's condition says the model's stomach had to be removed during the last surgery due to internal bleeding.

"Continue praying for her. The doctors are doing everything that is humanly possible to save her, but only God can really save your (sic) life," says the most recent post by Renato Lindgren.

Da Costa's boyfriend, Thiago Simoes, told the G1 news Web site that Bridi fell ill on December 30 and was initially misdiagnosed with kidney stones.

When her condition worsened she returned to hospital where doctors determined she was suffering from a severe urinary tract infection.

By then, Bridi was also suffering from septicimea, a blood infection that limited the supply of oxygen to her extremities.

The condition forced doctors to amputate first her hands and then her feet.

Her father, Agnaldo da Costa, is said to have told Folha de S Paulo newspaper that "the concern is over her life."

The executive director of Miss World Brazil, Henrique Fontes, issued a call for blood donors.

According to the blogsite, Bridi has a rare negative blood type. By Tuesday, it said more than 100 people had donated blood in her name.

News of Bridi's condition spread quickly throughout Brazil and then worldwide.

A message on her Web site said that the volume of traffic to the Web site had caused it to crash, and that the site had received more than 15,000 hits in two days.

"The whole world, I repeat, the whole world is touched by the case of Mariana."

The message said they had received "emails of solidarity from all corners of the world: Australia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, France, Italy, USA, Russia, etc.. "

Bridi's family and friends have urged people to keep praying for Mariana's survival. "Mariana is (a) warrior and will win this battle."

In 2007 and 2008, Bridi came fourth in the quest to find Miss World Brazil, representing first the coastal town of Guarapari and then the town of Sergipe.

She also came fourth in the Face of the Universe competition held in South Africa in 2007. And last year she won the award for the best body in the Miss Bikini International competition held in China.

To set the record straight the Peter Elias received 200,000 TT in support for Ms World Gabrielle Wakcott from the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs.

Mr Elias received the first 100,000 earlier this year and stated later on that it was used to pay off last year's bills. Note that Sponsorship given by the Government has to be used in the year it was intended for not the previous year. After Mr Elias made an outcry of lack of sponsorship he recedived an addtitional 100,000.00.

It is not the responsibility of the Government to foot the entire bill when offering assistance and the Ministry has many other projects which offer assistance to individuals and communities as well as Scholarships all of which have a set budget of funds that can me distributed equitably.

Well you do raise an important (and good) point Ria. If they gave money for 08, then it should be used for 08, but obviously Ria, Peter probably had to use from his own funds to cover Valene`s preparation.
So the fact is if he does intend to continue, I think Peter cant depend on the Government for 100 percent of the funding, because they dont seem interested.

'LOOK AT THESE': Miss World Trinidad and Tobago Gabrielle Walcott displays the two awards she received on arrival at Piarco International Airport on Monday night, following her second runner-up placing in the Miss World competition on Saturday at Johannesburg, South Africa. Gabrielle copped the Beauty with a Purpose and Caribbean Queen titles. -Photo: JERMAINE CRUICKSHANK
Miss World Trinidad and Tobago, Gabrielle Walcott, plans on enjoying a "Trini style" Christmas in the upcoming weeks.

Walcott emerged second runner-up in the 2008 Miss World pageant last Saturday, behind Miss India, Parvathay Omanakuttan, the first runner-up, and Miss Russia, Kseniya Sukhinova, who won the Miss World crown.

She also won the Beauty with a Purpose award for her work with the Just Because Foundation at the international event, which took place in Johannesburg, South Africa.

"The Miss World Organisation may require me to tour and do charity work so I'm waiting to hear what's going on," Walcott explained to the Express yesterday.

"I have to be available when they need the help. In the meantime I'm just going to enjoy Christmas."

The local beauty, who returned home on Monday night, was very proud of her accomplishment.

"I'm extremely happy about my performance at the competition," she said.

"I went there and I did exactly what I hoped I could do for my country. I only wished that I could have finished giving my answer to the question I was asked."

Apart from being a finalist in the pageant and meeting many other girls, Walcott said she loved the safari experience in South Africa.

"I was particularly the most relaxed on the safari," she added.

"We stayed in a Pedi village, which is a native African tribe village, and we slept in their huts one night. Waking up on the crack of dawn on safari was amazing. The lions and the elephants made the experience even better."

As for queen maker Peter Elias's announcement that he would be bowing out of the pageant world, Walcott said it was a very sad moment for her.

Elias has been working in the local pageant industry for the last 15 years and has had many successes in the top 15 of both the Miss Universe and Miss World international pageants. He has also seen the crowning of Miss Universe 1998 Wendy Fitzwilliam.

Congratulations to Gabby again on a job well done. The only question is what is the future for other Miss T&Ts?. Peter Elias has announced that this was his last pageant. This is truly a major disappointing thing to hear. He has done so well with the promotion of T&T and the grooming of each girl that has represented T&T.

While I understand his frustration. I hope that he somehow reconsiders resigning and continue the great job that he is doing. This will be a great lost for T&T if he is no longer a part of the franchise.

I dont understand why the government has not been continuously supportive financially to PE&A. That is a huge let down. The girls that are sent to these pageants are representing T&T and promoting it to the world in a positive light. One will think that the government will want to be a part of this continuously. PE&A should not have to be asking everytime for support. It should be readily available when they need it.

My hope is that Peter elias decides to stay on and do it for his country and the people that supports him and the girls that so proudly represents T&T on the world stage. I can not imagine what the future of Miss T&T will look like without the training and development expertise of PE&A. Then, the other question is. Will there even be another Miss Trinidad and Tobago?. If there is and there is another franchise holder, I hope they can do and continue the great job PE&A has done for so many years.

Peter, try and reconsider your decision to leave!

Unless the ministry gives in writing a legally binding agreement of financial support then I think Peter Elias and Associates should not reconsider. Will we be going to MU09? I am already concerned that if we even make it to MW09, we don't end up with another Heidi Rostant-phenomenal beuaty queen-horrible interview!

The time for begging is over. Peter Elias and Assoicates is a world-class organization-sorry I can't say the same for the T&T government-vision 20/20 is apparently nobody knows about our country outside of the Caribbean and Venezuela. I hope the ministry is totally embarrassed by PE&A's announcement (as they should rightfully be).

Dont you all get it? Hats off to PE&A but people dont understand the government does not care! We have too much oil, gas and other such natural resources...why spend time trying to market Trinidad and Tobago...this is to me what the government thinks and its stupid. Stupid because these resources are not renewable and we just shouldnt just depend on this...I dont know who or what is in charge of marketing Trinidad & Tobago, but whoever is surely needs to get a wake up call...This is good marketing going down the drain, like everything else in this once paradise. They do not care! I support PE&A 100% because this is the only way sometimes...Look at the Soca Warriors and many other TnT representatives...there is always some confusion in terms of gov't spending...yet they spend spend spend! I'm just so glad I dont have to live here anymore but VERY much more sad that I CAN'T!

I'm no gov't basher...but people who deserve a bashing will get one! I am so fed up with their talk about private sector funding...These people need to understand...TnT is NO VENEZUELA (a pageant fanatic country!) Its just not part of our culture...why then should u depend on private citizens to do the job of the public sector...I.E. if these pageants are seen as a tool for marketing...WHO THEN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MARKETING TRINIDAD & TOBAGO????

...this is very weird. I know I dreamt that Russia won and I said I thought Gabby was 2nd...I saw some confusion with Gabby and although I could not tell who the other 3 finalists were I remember thinking they had tans (i.e. not pale white as Russia). Very weird how things really played on the int'al stage.

I am so proud of Peter Elias, Adrian, Alyson, Bobby, Gabby and all the others who behind the scenes were a driving force for this win. Congrats to all. I am very sad to hear that Peter Elias and associates is no more but I totally support this very difficult decision. As I have said before, no one but the Gov't can hold on to either franchise more than 3 years. I hope TIDCO acquires the franchises but now they will have to pay Peter, Alyson and Adrian for their services because there is no group better in T&T to manage these franchises with the success that PE&A have had. Pete we behind yuh all de way with this one.

From the Newsday. And I dont blame Peter. Enough is enough

Trinidad and Tobago’s Gabrielle Walcott was yesterday crowned second runner-up at the Miss World 2008 contest at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. But even while ecstatic in her victory, local franchise holder Peter Elias told Newsday that this was the end of the road for him.

He said, “What joy, what joy, what joy! This is one of the proudest moments in my life. When Gabby won the ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ contest and I saw the Trinidad and Tobago flag featured in her piece I felt so proud of TT. I’m proud of my team and Gabby’s effort. It was a long hard road but we succeeded. All is great but this is the end of the road for Peter Elias. I’m going to pass on the baton to someone else. I feel proud to have contributed to my country over the years and the feelings I felt today I want it to stay with me for the rest of my life.”

On the Miss World stage Walcott carried herself with grace and charm, looking absolutely regal as she was announced winner of the Beauty with a Purpose award.

Beauty With A Purpose is an event established in 2001 that is celebrated during the activities prior to the Miss World pageant. It awards the contestant with the most relevant and important charity project in her nation.

A short video was shown of Walcott’s work with the Just Because Foundation which supports children suffering with or recovering from cancer at the Paediatric Speciality Centre at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope.

Gabrielle’s work was highlighted and broadcast to two billion viewers in 187 countries. The world was shown that while working with those children Walcott decided to create more hospitable conditions for them since the facilities were not adequate. She helped raise about $100,000 in charity for the creation of a new children’s ward.

Bobby Ackbarali who is in South Africa with the TT team had his moment of pride when the gown that Walcott wore was a finalist for the World Designer Award.

Eventually beauties from 109 countries were whittled down to 15 semi-finalists with Trinidad and Tobago being the second country to be called after India and before Angola, Russia and South Africa.

Since 2005 the Beauty with a Purpose winner automatically makes the semi-finals but Miss Trinidad and Tobago World 2008 went a step further as she is the first and only winner to place in the top three.

Asked what makes her the best delegate for the Miss World title Walcott quoted from former South African president, Nelson Mandela stating, “A good mind and a good heart form a wonderful combination”, and from her own father who she said always told her “to whom much is given much is expected”. Walcott stated that she had that mind and heart and was prepared to give her all.

Then just before the announcing of the results Miss TT was asked about her South African experience leading up to yesterday’s final. She said, “I came here a girl, I will leave here a woman.”

Julia Morley, CEO of Miss World then named Miss Trinidad and Tobago second runner-up, India first runner-up and Russia’s Kseniya Sukhinova, Miss World 2008. The 21-year-old blue-eyed blonde and 58th Miss World beauty takes over from Zhang Zi Lin of China.

    Culture Minister praises Gabrielle

    Sunday, December 14 2008

Minister of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs, Marlene McDonald, yesterday conveyed the gratitude of the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago to the Miss Trinidad and Tobago Miss World delegate Gabrielle Walcott, for being chosen the second runner-up in the 2008 Miss World Competition.

In a release issued yesterday McDonald noted Walcott’s achievement in copping the first place in the “Beauty with a purpose” segment of the competition, and also noted that Walcott’s gown was the second place winner in the “World Designer Award” for her evening gown.

She stated that the Government of Trinidad and Tobago remains conscious of the tremendous opportunity afforded by the Miss World pageant for the promotion of our country and the development of delegates like Miss Walcott as possible role models for our young women.

McDonald then said, “As in previous years therefore, the Government provided the financial support necessary to assist in enabling our delegate to not only prepare herself, but to compete and produce results such as that which we celebrate today and of which the country takes immeasurable pride.”

When Newsday spoke with franchise holder for the Miss World and Miss Universe competitions, Peter Elias earlier he said, “Peter Elias and Associates is grateful for whatever support we have received from the Government; however, support has been our greatest challenge of all.”

It is public knowledge that Elias has had to struggle to get promised support over the years.

This year was no different in that the first installment from the government was received one day before Miss Universe representative Anya Ayoung-Chee left for the competition.

By that time Elias had spent more than that first $100,000. preparing her for competition.

Other financial support came in August and late November, after Walcott already left for South Africa causing a strain on preparations.

Eventually the government gave approximately two-thirds of the budget necessary to have delegates properly represent this country.

Nevertheless McDonald said, “The Ministry again encourages the private sector and the national community in general, to partner with the franchise holders in respect of future competitions and, in particular, the provision of assistance to local charities selected by future delegates.”

The Ministry, on behalf of the Government took the opportunity to again applaud the efforts of Elias and Associates, for their continued efforts in preparing our delegates for the competitions.

Gabby, we thank you for representing T&T so well. You did excellent. A job well done!. I am extremely happy that Gabby won the Beauty with a Purpose award and was also one of the finalist for best designer award. What an accomplishment. Second runner up Miss World finals/Beauty with a Purpose Winner/Queen of the Caribbean Winner/ finalist in Top Model and Beach Beauty. You represented your country great.

I hope that the government step up and give the much needed financail support that PE&A needs. They need as much help as they can get. As mAXIMUS said, people know about T&T just because of the track records at both Miss Universe and Miss World.

    Thank you Gabby!!!!!

Angola was a mess in her interview. she was speaking english but i had no clue what she was saying. plus I think the host felt like a dork for cutting Gabby off, so maybe he wanted to give her some extra time.
Its 248am i gotta work at 830 i should go to sleep but im so happyyyyy. Gabby was also in the top 3 for best dress (usa won) and she won the beauty with a purpose.

The eyes of the world were on one stage when Kseniya Sukhinovia from Russia was crowned Miss World in a glittering, star-studded ceremony at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, the City of Gold.

The 2008 Miss World Festival, a record breaking year in the number of contestants taking part, has seen 109 beautiful and talented contestants spend an unforgettable month in South Africa. However, there could only be one winner and the applause rang out in the packed Convention Centre as Julia Morley, Chairman of the Miss World Organisation and of the international panel of judges, announced the winnerâ??s name.
Kseniya Sukhoinova smile spoke a thousand words to a worldwide TV audience of over 2 billion as she was crowned by last year`s Miss World, Zilin Zhang.

First runner-up was Trinidad and Tobago followed by India as second runner-up. The other two finalists were South Africa and Angola.

The only continental queen that I think is safe is India since I don't see anyone strong from that region although China has a very beautiful face. I have to admit that I agree with Gabby and Miss Bahamas being the top 2 in the Caribbean region-I know everyone else on the bigger forums are mostly saying DR is the best but I just have some serious doubts about her after seeing some recent photos-yes she looked good-but I got no personality from them. I really don't like SA and Brazil and I would not miss either from the semis but realistically, SA is probably guaranteed a semi-finalist spot.
By far, the most competitive region this year is Europe-Ukraine, Spain and Russia seem to be the best-any one of them could be the continental queen.

Expect this list to change quite a bit when they update it in a few days-according to globalbeauties, they are not too certain how good some of the pre-arrival favorites look because they have not seem much of them them in candid photos so this would explain why some ladies seem out of place on the chart (if you get my meaning).

I dont see Miss Brazil being continental Queen, nor do I even think she deserve to make the cut, She seems like she mised the pageant she was to go to and that was Miss Earth. She likes to plant and that is great for her and for our world but I dont see a Miss World winner or Continental Queen.

...the only pageant that I personally think Brazil may have a chance of placing in based on merit is Miss Earth. I don't what what appeal people have for her.

Hey guys, I checked and pics are not available yet (I know it's been over 8 hours since delegates started arriving in relatively good numbers. I am happy to see that Gabby has today off to rest after that very long trip. Tomorrow they are supposed to go sight seeing and may film some segments for the final.

    Beauty With A Purpose

Trinidad and Tobago has taken the last fast-tracked place into the Miss World Semi-Final after receiving the `Beauty With A Purpose` Award.

This year`s winner has just been announced during the 58th Miss World Final show and was presented with her trophy by Tumisho.

Trinidad and Tobago said: `I have worked very hard with a children`s specialist hospital unit to make a difference and I am so excited to be going through to the Semi-Final. But the real reward for me is the difference I have been able to make to lives of people in my home country.`

`Beauty With A Purpose` recognises the achievements of the contestants and their licence holders for their outstanding charity work in their local communities.
Julia Morley, Chairman, MWO, who initiated the `Beauty With A Purpose` Award specifically to recognise efforts of charity and good deeds, said: `The standard of work submitted by this years contestants was truly amazing.`
Trinidad and Tobago now joins the other four Fast Track Semi-Finalists Espinoza Marroquin Anagabriela, Mexico; Kseniya Sukhinova, Russia; Natalie Olivia Griffith, Barbados and Alexandra Helga Ivarsdottir from Iceland in tonights Final 15.

The excitement is growing as 10 more Semi-Final places are to be announced by the judges. Fifteen contestants will now go forward to contest tonights Miss World Semi-Final.

oh gosh dis black dress looking HOT! looks like a fusion pattern, african and asian. btw trini77 see what i was talking about the pushing up thing? look at pic one, she looks quite normal there compared to the pic of her with russia where she seems to be arching her back more. it could be the angle but the angle is not that different to me. btw...that slit on the silver dress rather high....lol. I'm curious to know what is the silver material on her arm below that silver bangle...any suggestions anyone?

haha check it the pic with gabby hugging the other black girl! gabby's arm looks quite strong and the black girl fingers are poised like she is about to drink tea....british style :D

That black dress is hot! It complemets her very well. The girl Gabby is hugging is Miss Barbados who is already a top 15 semifinialist. To be quite honest, that silver gown in my opinion is difficult to wear. I am sure she turned quite a number of heads with that number.

I think we see things differently-I don't think for one second that she is pushing the dress up-actually she is standing more erect and I think the gown was designed to "push the assets up"-I think this is a Bobby Ackberali creation (well if I believe Newsday anyways) and the boobs are supposed to be up-Remember Valene last year-for BB I saw very little boobs but for the finals "BOOBS GALORE" (forgive the expression) but it was very tastefully done.

Anyways, sticking with the boobs topic-am I the only one on here who remembers in the 1990s when the reigning MW would be on the judging panel for the MW finals and I totally remember thinking that I never realized how much boobs the winners had until then. I really don't think Mrs. Morley is afraid of the big boobs-only if they are too plastic looking or come with an attitude, then I think she is turned off. Zi Lin aside, MW does not really crown the pencil thin top model type. It's beauty is more Eurocentric. If boob jobs were a turnoff then we would not have had 5 Miss Worlds from Venezuela.

Anyways, I can't wait to hear what takes place for the finals (yes no video feed). If Gabby wins beauty with a purpose I personally think she is MW2008 if she interviews well onstage...but for now, I will predict that if she wins Beauty with a purpose then she is at least 2nd-runner up.

O.K. It would be interesting to see if we have a shock top 3-T&T as MW, SA as 1st-RU and Venezuela as 2nd-RU. Anyways, MW is totally unpredictable. Let's just pray that Gabby does well.

hey trini77, i see where ur coming from. i think it maybe a case of the first time i've seen one of girls compete with "enhancements" already done if u kno what i mean. the way i see it is that its all well and good for the girls if they choose to do that but like T&T also has a rep for sending up competitive girls who are all natural (as far as i kno in terms of the natural part). not one of our delegates have been compared to a latin delegate and especially not in the surgery department. i'm just voicing the "push up" issue because of the pics i've seen and not wanting her to come across as "hoochie" in anyway! the least things we give ppl to make negative comments about the better!

the good thing is that miss world so far has not been crowning the gorgeous model types like miss universe, i guess they want miss world to be more the approachable beauty!

at the end of the day, i supporting gabby all d way.....big "enhancements" or not...lol

p.s. u notice trini77, how we (the true fans) could have a disagreement and a different pov and not end up fighting at each other throats? some ppl need to take a hint...but i aint calling names nah!

You're absolutely hilarious...and yes I am Trinidadian. My remaining family in Trinidad now reside in Valsayn. We're originally from San Juan, or Sawa (not sure how that sounds british to you). It, like the dilect from which it is usually spoken has no resemblance to the british proper english, so really, don't kid yourself. It's funny to me that Trinidadians perceive the british accent to be a measure of class (that's why so many Trinis fake it I assume). That excuse about it being a british colony would have worked 50 years ago, but alas mother England left the country to it's own devices and it's OWN culture and dialect continued to flourish; independant of the initial influence. Jamaica has much the same story, and an accent (they don't hide) that reflects it.

To someone who didn't know better, your weak excuses might have meant something. That being said, I've got to tell you, those people who ask if your accent is british...are obviously trying to say in a kind way, "admit it you're not from England and you're not fooling anyone"...clue in already. I am so embarassed by people like you, you make Trinis seem like they don't have a culture of their own to be proud of.

Persist in negating my heritage if it entertains you, truly some exchange should be in order given the tremendous "entertainment" value I am getting out of Miss Trinidad's atrocious helium filled appendages that Trini77 seems to be so proud of. She's pageant pretty, but the height, the boobs, strike one, strike two...I'm just waiting for the stripper heels.

Well really, "Ent yeh know ah don come teh macko an spread talk so ol yeh let be nah" oooops there goes my british accent again :)

Ok, so I get it. And to be honest I have nothing against your views. The fake accent is a pet peeve of mine too. Speaking properly to alot folks= the "Corn-vunt axe-unt".

And to be honest most of these folks live in the same area you mentioned your family lives. However, I`ve never met Gabby (and I don`t think you have either, maybe I`m wrong) so I dont know if that was an act or not...so I`m not going there.

I admit I didnt like her actions, she tried abit too hard for my liking. Moving on though- with regards to the implants which you hate so much (yes...ok wonderful maybe you are au natural, no to implants, no to makeup, no to weave, no to relaxer...etc) Hey I respect that also. But the point is it comes down to choice. So if she WANTED to get her boobs done, who are you to judge her? She isn`t the first and she damn sure wont be the last.

And I guess finally I just want to know- since you have a major problem with her why do you come here then? Wont it annoy you even more to see said implants plastered all over the forum? Why waste your time?

...anyone can come on the internet and claim to be from T&T or Mars for all I care. It does not matter. No real Trinbagonian would come on here and just have 100% of negativity towards Gabby, or any T&T rep for that matter. I already have an idea of who is this "not impressed" person and in my nearly 30 years on this planet I have never seen a Trini spell dialect that way. To be bashing incessantly, is ridiculous. Yes she is short but still made it to the semis of BB and Top Model when alot of ladies failed to (shouldn't it be something to be happy about). The fake boobs-wait a minute let's talk about all the fake boobs that for decades the Lain and european ladies have had not to mention the liposuction and rib removal-this is the same beauty that Trinis like to go "GA GA" for but let one Trini lady do something that she thinks could advance her further in the competition and everyone has to pong. And for everyone saying Gabby is pushing up the breast-in most pics she is not. Her frame is very compact and tight unlike some of the latin ladies who I might add have bigger implants.

P.S. I am pretty sure my dialect is in tact because up to this year when I was in T&T people were like "you have no accent." I am sorry that you think speaking standard english is like a curse or something-trust me if Wendy spoke in dialect for the prelim interview she would have never made it to the top 10 of MU. Come on people, this is not a political meeting in T'dad where dialect could be appreciated. She is on a world stage and she has to adjust. My gosh people, I have been in the room with and given presentations to elite people (nobel prize winners, major US philanthropists, scientsists, etc) and even I was critiqued as needing to reduce the strength of the foreign accent. Gabby was in the US for a while-she wants to be an acctress-do you really noone told her to pay attention to her accent. Gosh people, fake accent my backsi#e! If she wanted to be fake she would sound American. Even my closest friends have told me I have a strong British accent when giving presentations.

...I was finally able to see the video-my question is "what fake accent?" I am happy to see that she was very animated in the video because this is meant to attract attention for the voting-even if you think she was "trying to hard" you will still remember her after seeing all the vids from the Caribbean delegates for that very same fact. Remember this is for the online voting public-I am glad to see that PE&A made her change up the professional, mature "vote for me" vids that our reps have done before- I always remember the vid of a certain other Caribbean delegate where she was literally hopping around in and extremely animated (fortunately she was able to stand to film hers and not confined to a chair like Gaaby) and I thought to myself-"give the public what it wants for these vids."

It seems every year when a new Miss T&T is crowned there is thess negative posts. I think if you dont like her why bother yourself coming on a forum where most people are in support of her and behind her 100 percent?. This forum is plastered with Gabby's pictures are positive comments for her. Why will you want to suffer yourself the pain of being overwhelmed with all the well wishers?.

Gabby is a fantastic girl and has done remarkably well. I applaud her efforts in being the best that she can be. For your information. Being a former british colony has alot to do with it. I also if it is true that Trini's look at the british accent as some sought of classy accent. It is not just Trini's. You need to take a closer look at things then make your comments.

It is also a fact that when Trini's speak without the native dialect. They do sound british. You said you are Trini but your words says otherwise.

There are many people who talk the way Gabby does. I dont understand why this is even an issue. If you are Trini and talking to someone who is not country. We all know you will speak without your trini dialect. I am sure "Not Impressed" that even you if you are really Trini will change the style of your speach if you are having a conversation with someone or a group on indiviuals from another country.

I am really confused by some of your comments. Is speaking standard english "not having a culture"?.

Gabby is a true gem and is in everyway a true representation of a Trinidadian. Go Gabby!!!!

First of all I am the last person in the world who would object to delegates having plastic surgery, trust me on this :) Most delegates have implants, but Gaby's are of the poorest quality I have seen in many years (not the latin standard). They are sitting WAY too high and quite simply; they make her look cheap (and by extension, also Trinidad). The dated overly provocative wardrobe also doesn't help. This deeply upsets me because once again Peter and his "associates" have gotten it very WRONG. Why they didn't opt for a revision surgery baffles me, they had plenty of time and should have done so when the (very obvious) problem was identified. Any legitimate surgeon would have done the revision at no additional cost.

The only thing that I am sure will be more offensive than this choice will be the predictably horrid gown PE selects for her to match the stripper styled platforms I am sure he is adamant on. I'm cringing just to think what poorly cut boring outdated gown will be framing Trinidad once again. Why doesn't he just contract in some help, or make an alliance with another country's pageant prep team? That's what the latins do. An alliance with Magali Febles' Dominican team might just be in your reach if you play your cards right.

Secondly, Trini77, you live your life on this board...plain and simple. You think that it belongs to you and that you are the all seeing all knowing omnipotent eye of pageantry that we must all bow down to...GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD...YOU ARE NOT...WE ARE ALL ENTITLED TO OUR OPINIONS. PS - Don't talk to me about spelling mistakes...I read your posts enough to know that you are no scholar.

Thirdly, fake british accents internationally are laughed at so I reserve my right to laugh again, ha ha. There is no reasonable argument that supports acceptance of such behaviour other than citing a lack of confidence in one's one origins.

Lastly, style of speech (ie. grammar, word usage and sentence composition) is not synonymous with 'accent'. They relate to two very different aspects of speech

...and no, I never adjust my accent.

Where do I start, first of all. It is sad that you still decided to come on this forum in the midst of all these fans of Gabby to defame her. Are you not feeling irritated by the fact that this entire forum is literally plastered with her pictures and well wishers?. Maybe you are. Is this why you feel the need to say only negative things about her?.

Do you have anything positive to say?. Or are you just in hate of everything that is Trinidad and Tobago?. Once again, you keep saying you are a Trini, but have you read your comments?. You sound very bitter to Trini's in general.

First you had a problem with Gabby's accent, then it was her breasts. Now, its about the clothes she wears. For the record, alot of people think that Gabby's breast are just fine. I dont know what problem you talk about that needed to be fixed.

PE&A has been seen as one of the best teams in pageantry. He has created great cutting edge designs and alot of people do like it. I dont know where you come from with this "outdated" comments that just sounds really ludicrous!.

You seem stuck on the idea of horrid gowns? What gown or gowns in your opinion has been so horrid and as you said stripper like platforms that the Miss T&T's has worn?

Secondly "Not Impressed", PE&A has contracted other designers to create gowns for Miss T&T. Last year Bobby A. designed Valene's gown and he is also the designer for Gabby's gown this year. I think you need to do a little research before commenting.

Why in this world will PE&A want to team up with the Dominican team or whoever it is?. PE&A have proven to be a great world class team. They have proven to be on top with their sense of style, great training methods or preparations of the girls. I dont think they need the help of the latin countries. You talk about getting associated with them as some sought of priviledge. T&T has done way bettter than alot of these latin countires alot of times. So, what do you think about Miss Dominican Republic this year?.

You keep insisting with this view of someone having a fake british accent. Again, Gabby speaks perfecrtly fine and sounds 100 percent Trini and showcases the variety of the culture that is Trinidad and Tobago!!. What origins exactly are you talking about?. If you want to talk about origins then we go right back to T&T as a former british colony and thats where english became the language that is the language spoken in T&T. So, quit trying to defend something that can not be defended. You are making yourself look really bad now.

No one said that grammar or word usage in a sentence is the same as with speaking in a accent. We all know that standard english is understood no matter what accent its spoken in. But, you talk about you dont change your style of speech. So, I assume when adressing a group or indiviuals that are not from your country you speak with the day to day trini words?. You know, the ones you speak with your friends etc?. Most people know that when speaking standard english you do sound different.

Also T&T is very diverse and Gabby represents that all the way!!!

That's a riot...Bobby Ackbarali is not a real fashion designer, nor is Peter. Their designs are OUTDATED and outside the realm of actual fashion. I can look in my own closet to find an assortment of ACTUAL designer gowns, can you? Do you even know what's showing in Milan for the spring shows?? No, the closest you've ever gotten to actual fashion is sorting through 'made in china' bolts of fabric in Port of Spain. Don't YOU lecture ME. Their designs belong in the Seventeen Magazine Prom Edition with the other poorly cut ill-inspired designs. Their skill is really quite limited to the trained eye. It doesn't matter where you're from, it's your original interpretation of fashion and ever evolving talent that makes you shine; just look at Carlos Miele. Peter and Bobby just don't have what it takes to be called designers. They are unoriginal, they are dressmakers. To be sure if you yourself really agree with me just hold their work to the standard that I am forced to; the mid-range international standard. It's not the highest standard, it's the bare minimum. Focus on composition of the gowns not cost of the gowns.

You're arguments have no merit so I won't bother responding to any of your other silly remarks. You're too far inside your own bubble to see any flaws within the Trinidadian system. I don't hate Trinidad or Trinidadians; just the excess of stupidity and ignorance that prevails among certain individuals on this board.

That being said, I'll let you go back to your delusions of grandeur and save you from the harsh reality of what is truly lacking for you to have a crown. Miss World is the poor man's Miss Universe so good luck to winning this year's set of rhinestones. Like I said before...you'll need it.

To be honest I got no beef that this person hates Gabby. Not everyone will like her and thats a fact. But I can do without the condescending and judgmental attitude. This person just sounds like she thinks she is better than everyone. A waste folks, lets focus on better things.

To be completely honest if I can be without getting bashed on here, Gabrielle talks like a normal white Trinidadian person to me. British? Maybe, but everyone here knows that white Trini's talk a whole lot different than the rest of the population on the island. It’s hardly spoken with any of the “Creole” Trini words and phrases. No slang, I mean.
    Just my two cents.

I am so glad to know that the video of gabby's foundation, "Just Because" has won a spot to be played on the night of the Miss World show. I am always touched when stories from her project air on the local news cast. I am so proud of my country right now. Even if she doesn't win, my heart is now content. I am always so sad looking at the cancer patients as they air there stories on national TV. I am proud to know that others have felt the same way and hence found Miss T&T deserving of a spot in the Beauty with a pupose challenge. Way to go Gabby! Way to go! You make me proud to be a Trinbabgonian. Thanks a million! See you on Pagaent night with or without that crown, we'll definitely see you!

Hey everyone Gabby made top four in beauty with a purpose with her project with the just because foundation where she opened a pediatric children's ward at mount hope. The video will air with three others on the night of the show. Other finalists were Mexico, Kenya and Hungry. At that point the beauty with a purpose fast track winner will be announced. The video was done by Christian Fluke and narrated by Gabby herself, this announcement was made at the charity dinner where our national gift received the highest bid after a piece from South Africa. Congrats to Gabby.

On another note the rumor is also circulating that the Jamaican camp seems very certain that Miss Jamaica is Queen of the Caribbean already since they are doing the outfits for the MW opening number. I just don't see this happening with the other 6 judges on the 8-member prelim panel.

Pray for Gabby everybody! This is the closest we have been to the MW crown since Michelle in 1995.

I am quite curious to see that Trinidad and Tobago is predicted (as well as Canada) to win the 'Beauty with a purpose' award. Indonesia and Norway are also in the list of four. Is it that you can preview the videos online. I was quite amazed to know that someone said that on missosology. I know Gabby's heart is in the right place so that award will be the most deserving if she gets it; even if she is a contender in that race. Her project was well worth it. I saw some other updated photo's of her on missosology too. I am satisfied with all of her efforts. I hope she wins an award just for her hard work. That will really be 'beauty with a purpose'

The Ministry of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs wishes to extend its best wishes and that of the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago, to the Miss Trinidad and Tobago World delegate Gabrielle Walcott in this year’s Miss World Competition, the finals of which will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on December 13, 2008.

The Ministry and, by extension, the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, is conscious of the tremendous opportunities afforded by both the Miss World and the Miss Universe pageants for the development of the delegates themselves as possible role models for our young women, as well as the promotion of our twin island Republic. In furtherance of this, the Government has, over the years, provided the financial support necessary to assist in enabling our delegates to not only prepare themselves, but to compete and produce results of which the country has been understandably proud.

In more recent times, the Ministry has provided financial support to the Trinidad and Tobago delegates at the two competitions as follows:

    Year Sum

    2006 $300,000

    2007 $325,000

    2008 $300,000

This year, following representation made by the Franchise Holder, the Government has provided additional assistance in the sum of $284,000 from the Sport and Culture Fund, Office of the Prime Minister, for the Trinidad and Tobago delegates at both the Miss Universe and Miss World pageants, bringing the cumulative financial support in 2008 to $584,000, or approximately 72% of the delegates’ budgeted expenses.

These funds were provided, notwithstanding other successful approaches which the local franchise holders made to other State and Para-state agencies.

The Ministry takes this opportunity, on behalf of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, to applaud the efforts of Peter Elias and Associates, the franchise holders of both competitions, for their tremendous efforts over the years in the preparation of our delegates for the competitions. The Ministry also encourages the private sector and the national community in general, to partner with the franchise holders in respect of future competitions.

..PRESSURE! Last time I checked, if I did not have enough money to go anywhere out of the country I could not go even if I had 75% of the cash needed. These people ridiculous. I like how they suddenly care after the front cover of Newsday published the problem and then followed up with an article saying Gabby is among the favorites in SA after having placed in the semis of beach beauty. I guess someone decided to cover their as$ just in case Gabby makes top 3- because we all know they going to look nuff bad if she does.

Miss Trinidad's british accent is almost as fake as those cheap saline boobs...couldn't spring for cohesive silicone, huh? Your delegate is disappointing as usual. Good luck, you'll all need it.

...I was wondering when all the discontent on another national forum would filter over to the T&T board. We were a british colony smart-ass hence the accent. I live in the US and when people hear me speak in standard english they tell me I sound British. Please don't hate because your delegate is not generating any posititve feedback in the media.

Funny, in all the 14 years I lived in Trinidad I never realized that "fake british accent" was part of the dialect. Thanks for clearing that up...now explain the part about how those ridiculously obvious fake inflatable boobs actually DO look like actual breasts to you.

Your delegates are getting worse by the year Trinidad. That sloppy cheap plastic surgery just cost you the very slim chance you had at winning that crown. She looks like a cheap video hoe who should be shaking her ass in a nasty rap video; not regal (to say the least). Can't wait to see the clear stripper heels she struts out in for evening gown :) Predictable.

Your choices make it very hard to root for the home team.

    ...here are my thoughts.

    1) There are only 2 possibilities for QOC-T&T or PR. T&T should win but PR has not won this title since 2005 and Winnela will be campaigning hard for her girl on the judges panel. Let's pray Gabby wins.

    2) SA is already QOAfrica as we all knew from the start of the competition and is probably already the 1st or 2nd runner up (No comment for now but I think we all know I don't favor this young lady's look). Since SA is the host I am expecting at least one more african delegate to place-I prefer Sierra Leon but you never know if Namibia will suprise at the end.

    3) Asia's regional queen will most likely be between India and Lebanon. Philippines will be in the finals based on votes probably.

    4) For the Americas, as I said last week on Pageantmania, Mexico is the one to beat. Only 2 others could possibly stead the title Venezuela and Belize (yes I know-a surprise to me to but I don't know how well she was prepared for he interviews). Mexico and Venezuela will definitely be in the top 15-I would also like to see Peru. Belize alone knows how well she can do because her nation does not have a very good track record at int'al pageants.

5)Europe's regional queen is most likely Russia but you never know if they will go with boring Spain because she looks alot tamer (oh gorm, my opinion-don't bite meh head off). Apart from these 2, Ukraine and Slovakia will probably place and so may Iceland.

The one to beat currently for the MW title:
MEXICO! (I've been saying this on Pageantmania even before BB)
Second heavy fav for the title is obviously Russia.

After these-Gabby in third (my opinion), followed by Spain (4th) and Ukraine (who I suspect will only be a semifinalist-really I don't see her winning at all).

Outside shot: Venezuela, Slovakia, Belize (if she is prepared)

    I also like Lithuania.

...I still expect Bahamas to place in the finals. It will be interesting to see if DR places but she seems so out of it-maybe if she was a couple years more mature she could handle the pressure better. She is beautiful though-she just seem a bit "lost" in her pics.

P.S. If Ukraine does not make the top 15 I would not be surprised.

I agree, the big 2 are Mexico and Russia. These are the 2 to beat, they are just on fire. I think Ukraine is okay and Slovakia is just a mess to me. Maybe she can be a top model but I really dont see the appeal beyond her height.

South Africa will make it, how far is she going to go, i have no clue. Maybe top 5 im guessing, but I dont think she should win.

The Caribbean isnt as strong as last year. I dont like PR but I wont be surprised if she is in there. Gabby should be there. I dont think Bahamas will be there (her styling is off, she doesnt even looks like she is having a good time in her pics. she lost that radiance she had pre-MW).

I like Venezuela alot, so i`m hoping she cracks the top 5. Spain is no longer my number 1 choice.

I had the weirdest dream last night-Russia won and couldn't fulfill her duties but no one was chosen as a replacement. Not too sure, but I think Gabby was 1st runner-up. I don't think the to 5 were the regional queens either. I don't really dream much so this was weird-I guess I better watch what I eat before I go to bed next time. Lol.

O.K. back to all seriousness- I like your picks smurfguyl. I have to admit that I really like Venezuela alot and I think she is the only one currently who could beat Mexico for the regional title. Venezuela in the top 3 would be fine with me. I am really surprised that now PR is top 2 in the Caribbean and Bahamas (who I formerly thought was the one to beat) in third. I still think she will place but then you never know. I wonder if they will just had over the talent award to an African delegate just to bolster the African presence in the finals. Anyways, you never know what to expect with this one. Who Mrs. Morley likes will make it.

Please go demure for the interviews. I know Bobby will ensure she looks beautiful but classy for the EG segment. I hope she wins this thing-her body is slammin' and her pics have improved drastically (as I expected). Pray people! I want to see Gabby with some MWorg jewelry come the 13th Dec.

I`ve just been going through all the MW pics on a forum and I gotta ask/say...where is Gabby? there are only a few pics of her (besides her Facebook batch).
Its always the same group being featured, with all the girls` camera- Venezuela, Russia, Mexico, Philippines, Ecuador.
Grrr, its so annoying! Ive always hated the lame coverage at MW but this year it has reached it peak.

    Hanging with Miss World
    Article By: Dan Nicholl
    Thu, 27 Nov 2008 13:40

Decent day’s golf on a raw but enormously promising course, perfectly pleasant lunch in between, and after a gentle stream of welcome drinks, a quiet dinner with a rather nice band. That was it, I think; although I get the feeling I’m forgetting something. It’ll come to me in a moment, though, I’m sure. Ah yes, that’s it; I’d almost forgotten the 118 Miss World Finalists I spent the first three days of this week with…

Of 2008’s arduous challenges, this was undoubtedly the most taxing — traveling up to Legend, Peet Cilliers’s golf and safari resort in the Entabeni Reserve, and in between having a look at the course and the spectacular nineteenth hole (where Paul Snodgrass famously hit a drive into a rock, and straight back into his nether regions — possibly the funniest sight of 2008), hanging out with 118 of the most beautiful women on the planet. Sometimes you really wish you were working in an office in London.

Ostensibly the golf was the reason for going up — the chance to have an early crack at one of the planet’s more extraordinary courses. 18 designers have created a hole apiece, starting with Trevor Immelman, and ending with Retief Goosen’s sweeping par-five; in between, 16 of the world’s finest golfers have each added a particular touch to what, as far as I know, is the planet’s first composite course of big name players.

There’s a long way to go, as the course only opens officially in March next year, but it’s already shaping up to be something rather special, Sergio Garcia and Camilo Villegas’s par-fours in particular catching the eye. Contrary to rumour, Vijay Singh’s hole won’t be for men only; all 18 holes have a way to go, but Legend is going to be a hell of a golf course when it’s done.

And that’s a considered, focused, objective opinion that was in no way distracted by the Miss World contestants spending the day on the course with us. I can proudly lay claim to having given Miss Holland, Miss Martinique, Miss Mauritius, Miss Poland and Miss Japan their first golf lessons, and explained the intricacies of reading a putt to Miss Latvia, Miss Bulgaria, Miss Moldova and Miss Lithuania; you could tell they were all incredibly impressed at my ability to read the break…

They also steeled themselves and kept rigid smiles in place every time Kurt Darren broke into song on the course — Kurt and his brother Darren (Darren Darren, from the proud tradition of M-Net’s Scott Scot) were taking on myself and Darren Scott, and the Afrikaans crooner kept singing at Miss World finalists whenever they popped up on a particular hole. Miss Bulgaria did think he was wonderful, mind; Sofia FM might just become Eastern Europe’s spiritual home of the treffer.

As devices to make a new course look extremely good go, littering the 18 holes with beauty queens is no bad option; granted, rounding up 118 Miss World finalists does require a little logistical planning, but it’s well worth the effort. Next time you’re hollotining the course, say. Miss World finalists also look reasonable round a campfire, learning to make potjies and to gum boot dance (for what it’s worth, Miss Sweden doesn’t do bugs, Miss USA is gorgeous but can’t dance, and Miss Trinidad and Tobago’s cleavage is probably visible from the International Space Station); and they look quite magnificent in cocktail finery at black tie dinners.

The gala dinner to wrap up the trip to Legend afforded conversation with Miss England, who’s worked at a golf club for the last five years (South African courses need to work on their employment requirements), Miss Belgium, who lived in the DRC for two years (so now you know), and the current Miss World, who’s from China and is four inches taller than me. And our own Miss South Africa, Tansey Coetzee, who’s gorgeous, full of life, and most importantly of all, determined to play more golf once she’s wrapped up her year-long reign.

Ideally, she’ll win Miss World in a fortnight; there is stiff competition though, which leads to my conundrum. I have an engagement party scheduled for next week, but have only managed to narrow the options to Miss Belgium, Miss Norway, Miss Venezuela, Miss Spain and Miss Trinidad and Tobago (she plays the violin quite beautifully). With Miss Zimbabwe (in trouble for sub-letting her hotel room to 14 of her countrymen) and Miss Brazil (almost eaten by a lion on safari; I pulled her away just in time, but it was a close shave) also outside contenders, I’m awash with indecision — but then that, I suppose, comes with the territory when you’re forced to spend three days playing golf and hanging out with 118 of the most beautiful women on earth.

...Gabby is not Anya. After the prelims at MU08, I was already in doubt that we made it-hence I was not shocked for the finals when she did not place. This is a new competition and getting excited about "if we go make it" is half the enjoyment for all the fans. Let's be excited but with level heads. I don't want to see that mess again on this board that transpired when Anya did not place. For now, I am saying I think Gabby can be top 5 but I can't see her outside the top 16.

...the internet connection is slow and it is taking forever for Pageantmania and Globablbeauties to lo load/navigate so I think I am just going to confine the rest of Gabby's MW stint to this forum. I guess in a couple of months I will go back and do a proper gallery for our girl on Pageantmania.

For the poster who was given the caution thanks but at the same time Anya was never the favorite to win MU -she was top 5 material though-yes another one of my quirks-MU and MW winners in my personal opinions have almost flawless faces and Anya did not-hence why I had her as high as 1st runner-up on my predictions and never the winner. Anyways, Anya did her best and we are all proud of her but as I said before, this is a different competition and Gabby is a different person. Realistically, beautywise I would say Gabby is in contention for the MW title because of her fantastic beauty-I think it is a safer match for the MW crown than Valene last year...but again, remember the winner is selected by discussion/debate among the panel and what Mrs. Morley wants will weigh heavily on who makes it to the top.

To reiterate, Gabby is in definite contention for the crown but so are about 5 others.

Gabby is a different person. She is clearly a favorite just because of her fantastic physical beauty alone. I know she is educated and can speak very well. I have confidence that she can do a great job in her interview. Hopefully their discussions will be in her favor. it seems that someone is trying to push Puerto Rico too. I think its going to to be Gabby and Puerto Rico from the caribbean to make top 15. Question, is there a top 15 or top 20 this year?

...is a former MPR and one of Mrs. Morley's closest friends (I think she is godmother to one of her kids)-she will be campaigning heavily for PR this year. I hope Gabby wins the regional title though. No way could I see PR as MW. Gabby still has a chance to win the main title though. Initially, it was 16 places this year but now Globalbeauties is reporting only 15 spots with 9 chosen by a panel of judges.

    Go for the crown Gabby!

There is another pic of her with a flower in her hair on the blog from the same event but it was taken too close to her face -I don't know anyone who takes good candid photos upclose. Anwyays as we can clearly see from this pic, she face looks flawless-so as we knew already, she knows how to do it right with the makeup.

Apart from that....am.....well, I never thought I would be saying it but I am now very interested to see how Gabby does for beach beauty-really, that body is slammin'! I have not seen a fitter body at the pageant thus far! Go for the crown Gabby! You have want it takes to win!

...the more I think she would not look out-of-place in the top 5 of Beach Beauty. At the same time though I know that sometimes the best bodies don't make it to the semis-it's all up to what the judges and Mrs. Morley wants. I hope Gabby does well though. I still have not seen a more impressive physique thus far at the competition.

...looks young and fresh with natural beauty in these photos. I hope she does well for beach beauty but regardless I am expecting her to place in the finals. Yes, I know I was the "doubting Thomas" (for a poor analogy) when the MT&T pageant took place but I am totally blown away by her body now. All the best Gabs.

P.S. I did not even realize that post was directed at me-I though he was talking about "Trinis" on here since to my knowledge no one on this forum is looking for a hook-up (and yes I have been here for years as we all know-LOL!). I really though he was maybe depressed or something because what he is saying does not make sense.

Anyways, people I am leaving in the morning. Hopefully, I get some sporadic internet access so I can post stuff off and on but I know you all will hold down the fort and support Gabby for me if I can't.

Gabby guyl, if you see this, we behind you 100%. I know you are going to do your best and that is all we could hope for. Can't wait to see you crack the top 16 and advance further on the 13th Dec.

I wish to suggest that Peter and his organization make the sacrifice to raise their own funds. Of course it is very challenging but they can.

How about on-going events like fashion shows, "Beauty Queens Who Can Cook" where former queens (Giselle, Penny, Wendy, Michelle, Heidi, Alexia, Danny, Fay, Maggie, and others) are invited to prepare their special dishes.

What about a Carnival all-inclusive fete?

Kim Sabeeney did it with very little.

    We can!!!!!!

Yeah i think they can raise some money too to help. I know the ministry is supposed to provide support and all but we all know the government is unreliable so if its his passion and he has a love for it then raising the money should be an option. Have fashion shows!!

I to think that PE&A can raise their own funds. like Michael said, there are many things they can do to raise the moner they need. What about not only a carnival all-inclusive fete. But, also a Carnival Band. They can launch their own band or maybe seek a special section in an already establish band. They can raise alot of maoney that way.

I'm pretty sure that they would have tried some sort of fund raising before, regardless of what it was. While all these are good ideas how realistic are they? How much support will he get for ventures such as these? To raise 700K a year for beauty pageants with a Trinidadian public is a tall order... Time will tell.

****PS: Where's Adrian Raymond?! I know he visits this site, if you are reading could you please shed some light on this issue?*****

I think they have done the carnival band section before. But thats something you have to do every year. You will always profit from that in T&T. One section in a band I am sure can make the money to sponsor one of the girls. They charge alot for those costumes. That along with some other fund rasing stuff like the carnival fetes and fashion shows etc. can make the money for both candidates. It is very realistic. Anything carnival in T&T will make money. Another thing is, if they do those things and get some fundind from the goverment(How little it may be) they will more than have enough to support each girl. It is possible.

...with all do respect, the comparison with Auntie Kim and Peter Elias and Associates is like comparing a tree to a forest-PERIOD! You all forget that it was Peter Elias who appeared on the scene in 1994 or thereabouts and he revolutionized the T&T pageant scene even while learning from the great queen maker herself. Take away Peter Elias from the T&T circuit-I highly doubt we would have had a MU in 1998 or many placements internationally for that matter.

Peter Elias knows better than anyone on this forum what Auntie Kim did and let me tell you if he did what she did we probably would not be at either competition. The competitions are more competitive now. Auntie Kim would have been in trouble herself-even her own daughter could not raise funds. And let's be honest, Peter Elias has used his own money from selling his clothes to finance these ladies and still he fell short. Additionally, it is 3 frekin' people who have to bear this burden-they are human-what the heck do you people want from them-they have been living and breathing this thing like crazy-what the hel# more you all want them to do?

I would like to suggest to you that most Trinis who come up with these suggestions don't know what busy is-really, that has been my experience personally. Additionally, you need money to do a start up business-MT&T reps. need the money now -go figure? Also, last time I checked any business could buss! (Any of you all fronting the money). Finally, and most importantly, I don't know anyone in the pageant circuit around the globe who would work their a$s off to spend it on someone else-is freakin' brand T&T he promoting-what, you all feel he making any fuc#ing money back from this thing? Talk cheap yes! The man have a family to take care off and money eh easy to come by people!

You all sound like people from Government-all ah all yuh want to off load everything on Peter Elias but yuh a$s go turn up at the airport when we win-and still Peter would not even get any type of recognition. HE IS ONE MAN YOU KNOW-NOT GOD!!! GROW UP PEOPLE!

Trying not to be to pessimistic, but seeing these pics of Gabby I just dont feel anything...honestly the girl is nice, but I dont think MW nor MU is her playing ground...If PE&A really wishes for funding they have to prove a point...yes I admit they have done well, but there needs to be consistency and a need to cut down on the excess...

TnT is also no pageant nation, so asking for such a large amount of money from the govt is ridic...its either we focus on one pageant and perform excellent or forget the whole thing! We're still small in the game despite a few placements...doing well in this business means selecting a girl meeting the characteristics of these organisations! We cant try to be different..at the end of the day its all about marketing!! When was the last time someone shorter than 5'8 won any major intl pageant...excluding MUSA of course...time to get serious!!! We need girls with that extra something like Valene, Kenisha, Fay...there was just something genuine and extra about these girls that you're not getting nowadays...

MU2008, Diana Mendoza, sure seems over the top...but at the end of the day...she's young/naive...therefore this over the top behaviour is genuine and expected...

I mean its sucks but you kind of have a point. the fact is we are not the only nation going through this stress, in fact only a select few, like USA, Venezuela, PR, DR etc. dont have this kind of stress. at the end of the day its his choice...to continue or not to continue. But Peter has to face it- either he tries on his own or just give it up.

I apologize for the strong wording, but I don't understand this 'raise funds for yourself' suggestion when we all know Peter Elias has tried that and it is not working. Let's hope he dumps both franchises because Trini people don't know how to appreciate a good thing when they have it sometimes.

Considering the pageant that she is in, I dont think that her height is really important. Miss World does not only crown tall girls. Its about who and what the girls is and if she represents the Miss World orgainisation best.

I also dont think that her height is a problem because Gabby is a very beautiful girl. She knows how to be notice and obviously get attention. I dont think height is a major problem in any pageant these days. If the girl has the beauty and her body is in good shape, together with the right personality she can win.

Gabby has all these things. I hope she does well because I know she can. She is currently one of the favorites.

Concerning PE&A situation. I still do believe there are ways they can raise the money if they are not getting anything at all from the goverment. he has done a great job with the Miss T&T franchise. I will not like to see him give it up. Hopefully the gonverment do decided to give the support to them. Also if this is something he really want to continue. He needs to find another way to gain the finances he needs

...guyl, no offence taking. I have been under alot of stress in the past year and have had too many run-ins with nasty people-I think I just got meaner, blunter and extremely abrasive from those experiences. Thanks so much for all your input! I always look forward to your posts.

Anyways, as I said-Peter was going out of his mind a couple years back in an interview where he literally sounded crazy (and I am not exaggerating-I was even surprised that it made it to the press) I am not too sure many people are aware of it. This pageant thing is his passion but he sets high standards for it and it shows in how well T&T is doing internationally. He can't generate enough funds on his own-Period! I just don't see the fiscal argument that he should support this thing. We are not even 2 dots on a world map and he is asking for pennies to send the reps. to these pageants where we have been doing well with his system. As I said, dump both-we will not attend another pageant consistently again unless a Gov't entity (eg. TIDCO) acquires the franchises...an Dthen they will come running to Peter to train the ladies because they don't know what they are doing.

Queen of the Caribbean: Either T&T or PR (something tells me Winela is going to fight very hard for PR to win). I officially think it is between these two.
    3. Bahamas
    4. DR
Special Mention: Jamaican design outfit Uzuri is doing the opening number dresses for MW08. The MWJ franchise may also be transferred later next year to Uzuri. Will Jamaica again make it? (Personally, I think she looks weak)

    My top picks:
    1. Mexico
    2. Russia
    3. Venezuela
    4. Ukraine
    5. Spain
    6. Trinidad and Tobago
    7. Slovakia
    8. PR
    9. Sierra Leon
    10. Bahamas
    11. Lebanon (gorgeous but I have not seen much of her)
    12. Ecuador
    13. Peru
    14. Iceland
    15. DR (still don't get the "deer in the headlights" look)

Realistically: SA is already Queen of Africa

I still think Gabby is going to do great-I was not expecting much when she was crowned but I am totally impressed with her drastic improvement. I would be shocked if she missed the semis. I hope she wins the regional title but we all know PR has not gotten the regional title in a couple of years and Wilnela will campaign vigorously for MPR. I still don't understand the disappointment about Gabby that some people are expressing. MT&Ts are known to shine the best onstage so I am not disappointed-if she walks onstage wearing a bolt of cloth like Anya did then I will have something to be upset about-for now I think she is doing fine. Yes she is short but this is MW and we all know who Mrs. Morley likes will make it to the top -last year's Angola being a fine example.

So for now let's give critical comments where needed and keep the positivity flowing.

    No more Miss Universe?
By MELISSA DASSRATH Sunday, November 23 2008

Miss Trinidad and Tobago for Miss World and Miss Universe may well be taking their final bow this year.

Pageant organiser and local fashion personality Peter Elias is lamenting that the powers-that-be have not readily come forward to offer financial support for the pageants and he is at the point of throwing in his hat when it comes to promoting this country internationally.

Elias told Sunday Newsday that he has been forced to personally take out bank loans to finance the competition. Even the destiny of Miss TT World, Gabrielle Walcott, was on shaky ground for a while. Walcott is now in South Africa doing her best to properly represent the country for this year’s competition.

The fashion guru said that after the embarrassing absence of Miss TT in 2007, the Government had made a commitment of their continued support. “Last year, we didn’t go to Miss Universe because I was unable to generate any support from private sponsors. I was in touch with the then Minister of Community Develop-ment, Culture and Gender Affairs, Joan Yuille-Williams.

“After we couldn’t raise the money last year to send a representative, we got a commitment from the Ministry that this will never happen again. The Minister vowed that the Government will always support Miss TT.”

Elias said that the Government honoured its commitment by fully supporting Miss TT in preparation for the Miss World competition, but has since failed to be as forthcoming with the funding for the other representative. Said Elias, “We selected Valene Maharaj as Miss TT World and she went on to do very well. She was the third runner up. Foolishly, I believed we could count on them. We had our selection in February and we selected two delegates, Anya Ayoung-Chee for Miss Universe and Gabrielle Walcott for Miss World. But I got the Government’s show of support the day before Anya left for the competition. They gave us a cheque for $100,000.”

But, he explained, it costs a pretty penny to prepare a representative for the competition. “Generally we need about $350,000 to $400,000 per delegate per show. This money goes into various things. From their participation fee, airfare, hotel accommodations, a stipend for the girl and her manager, nutrition, gym trainer and, depending on the girl, there are assorted fees for dancing, vocal training, stage performance, public speaking, photography and makeup and hairstyling lessons. Each delegate requires different training. They agreed then, that this was not much money for the potential of return of their investment. You cannot measure what these girls bring to the country because it’s priceless.”

Elias said he personally appealed to the Prime Minister’s Office to convey the dire straits the women and the competition were in. In addition, Elias indicated, he has written a number of letters about the situation, but to no avail.

“I have written so many letters. Just reminding them of the budget and the timing of the event, being as courteous as I can. Imagine the frustration of calling and writing with no response for months.”

A ray of hope came in the form of a cheque, Elias noted. “They had previously given us the $100,000 for Anya. Subsequent to that, I was forwarded to the Sport and Culture Fund where we got $280,000 for specific aspects of the training. Then in August, we got one more $100,000 from the Ministry. So today we have received $480,000, almost $300,000 short of our budgeted need (for both women).”

According to Elias, the budgeted need tends to wax and wane depending on unforeseeable events, “When I go through the costs it’s remarkable. For instance, Gabby’s show was postponed from August to December 13, so I had to train her for two more months than anticipated. We had prepared a winter wardrobe for the competition which was supposed to be held in the Ukraine, then it was moved to South Africa a warm climate so now we had to buy a better suited wardrobe.”

Elias said that the most upsetting aspect of the situation is the apparent indifference he has met in trying to deal with the situation.

“The job of the (Culture Ministry) is to promote the culture of Trinidad and Tobago. You have to appreciate that the success this country has enjoyed in the last ten years, since I have been working with the competition, has only been because of my thorough preparation. It has not been accidental or luck. So we are promoting our country, but not being supported by our country.”

He compared our lack of support for national delegates to other countries. “Many first world countries recognise the promotion as a form of a marketing tool whereas in developing countries governments usually sponsor the competition because they consider it a developmental tool for young women and a strategy to promote their country on the world stage.”

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Community Develop-ment, Culture and Gender Affairs, Earl Nesbitt, could not be reached for comment.

...I totally support any decision by PE&A to dump both franchises. That being said, I hope Gabby does really well in SA and when she gets back to T&T she opens her mouth and says something to the media so at least Peter Elias could get his money back from the loans he took. I know Peter Elias along with his charges love to show the greatest class and respect to others but really they people from the ministry have no class themselves.

It is so sad that we have found a gold mine for marketing T&T and as usual small minded trinis muck it up.

Anyways, I actually saw this article on pinoyexchange and I was shocked. News travels fast I guess.

Anyways, Pete, you did not fail us-the government did!

Sad times ahead for Trinidad And Tobago. You will see the Government on the bandwagon again if Gabby is in the top five or even wins the competition. It really SUCKS!!!!!!

If Gabby wins MW, I think Peter Elias should dump the franchise if he is not given a written guarantee of support from the government. I know Pete must be holding out for Dec 13th to see if Gabby makes top 5-that would ensure probably some funding for a T&T rep to MU09-but really, this situation is not healthy for Peter Eias, his team and family. It is ridiculous that the Trinidad and Tobago pageant company should be living this hand-to-mouth existence. No one in T&T can hold on to either major franchise-MT&TW or MT&TU-for over 3 years unless the gov't is funding it-I guarantee you that. CCN, which makes millions of dollars every year in profit dumped the MT&TU franchise in 2.5 years. Additionally, if someone else takes over the franchise from PE&A, I can assure you we are going to have a bunch of Heidi Rostants on our hands-ladies with beauty and intelligence to make it to top 5 at MU and MW, but who are going to not place or infrequently, if they do, they will not get as far as they could, because of inadequate training. If PE&A relinquishes both franchises then, MT&T will go back to the days we just attend the competition to make up numbers-I guarantee you we will have beautiful ladies who can garner media attention and make alot of prediction lists-but we are not going to do well for the finals which is what counts.

Pathetic, assinine government! I can't wait to vote these people out of office-never again for me.

...in a vehicle that could fund almost both delegates for a year. What a society we live in-no expense is spared for the comfort of our politicians but ask for a dime to market T&T internationally and you can't even get a response.

    The spotlight is on Latifah
    By Rhea-Simone Auguste

    Saturday, November 22nd 2008

The spotlight is on 15-year-old Latifah Morris as she strikes a pose on a black leather sofa. Click. Snap. A few pictures are taken and top local photographer Calvin French is noticeably pleased. "Beautiful darling, you're a natural," he coos as the young beauty switches to another pose. "Great! Just drop your chin a little and let your jaw relax. Give me a natural smile. That's it. Beautiful," French adds.

His positive feedback is doing wonders for Morris as she becomes visibly more relaxed and confident for her first photoshoot. The venue for the shoot is Bally's Hair Studio in Woodbrook. Morris spent the better part of the morning in the stylist's chair, having her shoulder-length hair cropped and styled to perfection. Before, it was the make-up artist's job to transform her look from natural beauty to polished model.

Her response to the transformation? "I like it. I'm still getting accustomed to the haircut but it's a new look. I can't wait to hear what my friends in school have to say about this," the Cunupia High School student proclaimed.

Morris copped the Coco Velvet International Top Female Model title last Sunday during an intense finale at Fiesta Plaza in MovieTowne. Though she had prepared for the event with Coco Velvet head Christopher Nathan and his fashion-savvy team, she said: "I was so nervous. I still get nervous about being on a runway in front of lots of people but it's fun and I'm getting accustomed to it. I get nervous when I see cameras. But I'm working on it and it's been a great experience so far."

On the night of the competition she was, in her own words, "not expecting to win anything. I was the youngest there and when they called the top five, my name wasn't called. Then one of the assistants came upstairs and asked for Latifah. There was an error and the fifth girl and I had the same amount of points. Then I made it to the top two and then they announced I had won in my category. My mom was so proud! She was there screaming in the crowd and we were crying. It was a great moment," she shared.

Prior to the competition, Morris said she never modelled "except in front my mirror! I watch Tyra Banks and I thought about modeling but this is the first time I tried doing anything with it. So far, I love it. It's given me the opportunity to meet new people - top designers like Peter Elias and photographers like Calvin French. There are many girls who would love this opportunity so I plan to work hard and show that I'm happy for the chance to be a model. Plus, with modelling, people get to know me better and I think that is good because I can be a role model for younger girls coming up. The people who know me would tell you I'm a solid, hard-working, fun-loving person and I hope this would result in me having a long career in this business."

Still, the young beauty intends to push herself harder at school. "I want to have a long career as a model but I also want to have something stable to fall back on. Maybe accounting. So I'm going to balance my school work and this new career," she explained.

Now that she's touched a bar she set for herself, the young Cunupia resident has set another goal for 2011. "I want to win a Miss Universe pageant," she revealed. "So in three years, I will be going up for the Miss Trinidad and Tobago pageant. That's something I'm looking forward to doing."

So perhaps in 2011, the 2009 Coco Velvet International Top Female Model may be a step closer to her dream goal of being a Queen. Perhaps there is room in the world for another dynamic and successful Queen Latifah. Time will tell.

    Hey everyone
I must send my positive vibes Gabby's way. I am so proud to see that every website I have visited has Gabby in their top 20. I think this girl is a cut above the rest. She can stand alongside all those girls and still stand out as a Trinbago beauty. It feels so good to know that every year we keep getting better at it. What great girls represent the entire Caribbean. I want the Caribbean girls to be the ones to beat. Go!!! My Caribbean beauties, and Go Gabby! Go get us that crown.
