Been some time since there was any activity here...guess everyone is busy with stuff...

I was doing a long run the other day when I saw some crew boats on the river and thought about our dragonboat race.

Man, the memories of that Inter-school Boy's Final is still etched deep in my mind. Chills run down my spine when I remember how our boat rocked to the side after being caught by the rope....how we rowed our hearts out...

but by any chance is anyone interested in a skiing/snowboarding holiday from 4-7 dec in mont tremblant (http://tremblant.com) near montreal? it's a pretty extensive resort from the piste maps i've seen and from the reviews that i've read. factor in 2 more days for getting there and away. obviously the more people we get the cheaper it will be... and definitely more fun! i'm happy to even go with people i don't know - so if you do know anyone in montreal/ontario/quebec region who's interested let me know...

get back to me asap cos i want to make bookings asap...like before the end of the week.

since there's no TV in the tent, can we after check in go china square (near raffles place mrt) for dim sum ( i got $25 off) then go back sentosa?

who wants to go windsurfing!

okay i wanted to do laser sailing, but due to fulled classes and bad timings, no go for me

so now i want to do windsurfing. weekend courses are booked all the way til 14 August (and i fly off 1 august)

BUT i can still go windsufing, if i find 6 pple to take the course. but the course will be held on a weekday not weekend.

right now i have ME and this other guy called shihong. i need 4 pple who are interested.



This is what we are intending to do:

Get Paym membership (apply to yuhua CC) at 10.50 (other CCs like bishan, toa payoh cost 21..so we found yuhua to be cheaper) and it lasts for 3 years, you also get discount at some resturants and all that. can go check website for exact details http://www.paym.org.sg/

Get PA seasports membership... either one year or two year. one year = $30 two years = $45, this rate is discounted with your Paym else normal rate is $40 and $65.

register for the windsurfing class. $60 .. we call the shots, either 2 half days or one full day.

hi guys!

me now in Chiangrai!!! shopping n food is cheap!! but weather can be quite hot!! hee... but not so humid...

just now met a french on bus who say the weather is way too hot. then he ask if Singapore is as hot as thailand. then me n my fren told him that singapore is worse cos singapore is as hot n more humin than thailand. the french is kinda speechless!! haha!! he must be thinking that we are living in Hell!! hhaha!!

anyway, i find Thai quite friendly n harmless... sometimes me n my backpack buddy travel in those dark alley (at night) also feel quite safe... that's all for now. me off to trekking to visit hill tribes tomorrow!

taking a break now from writing my final dissertation...last piece of work of my education. yay!

anyway... well instead of going bintan we'd all go and see shimin and huimin graduate.

mmm not sure how we can still fit in bintan... but it's not the type of holiday that needs to be booked early right? ... what's the best plan now? i don't think we should go 8-10 instead because huimin and shimin should need some time to prepare right..quite rushed for them.
what other things can we do? ... surely we will go out for a good makan session to celebrate our graduation/unemployment/employment/back to NS/any birthdays/pay rise/attachment/breakup. perhaps somewhere with nice ambience, good and affordable food. any ideas?

renee: yah KK = kota kinabalu. no no, actually we going to a gynaecologolists' party at kendang kerbau instead. all learn how to make babies, the new in-thing in singapore.

julia: i think both extremes equally sucky leh. even under a cold water shower (not in singapore, over here and in winter) i shiver and almost died-ed already. but i think in water more jiatlat cos still need to swim/tread water to stay afloat. desert just lie down and bake. or hide behind cactus. but i don't think desert is that bad leh. in icy cold water you can get hypothermia within minutes. so i think the opposite-equivalent would be walking into a >70 degree celcius sauna. in this case i choose icy cold water. less messy and violent ending.

let's go let's go let's go eat seafood ok! i am more gian for the restaurant type.

yes, for SGD10 you can have a seafood dinner that fill you up to your throats. there is this hawker centre at "tmn tebrau" that a lot of singaporeans like to go. like the normal bbq seafood stalls in spore. good for the sting rays and butter crayfish. but if you want crabs, new hong kong restaurant is the way to go. another resturant along the sea "genting" is good for seafood as well, but serves different kind of seafood like steam fish, sotong, drunken XO prawns, frog legs.

there are other yummy places for other foods like beef noodles, fish noodle soup, bak kut teh, etc. but dun think you guys will be interested lah. cos seafood wins hands down anytime rite?

me is on for both bintan and JB. my place is open for accomodation if you guys are interested to stay overnight.

it's a Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme (JET) that i applied through the japan embassy in singapore.

shimin:yeah yeah come visit me.. but most prolly i'll be posted to some rural area in japan.

xc: weeelll... i love my material science and engineering. but come on a chance to live somewhere totally different while getting paid, and teach english (which i think/hope/pray would be simple). it's like a paid holiday! besides i earn more than if i come back to singapore and work as an engineer.

xc: i'm returning to singapore on 1st july. as for the naval accident, i guess i wouldn't really know the full details, but if a court of law has put up experts and discussed and analysed the details of the collision in much more depth than me and come to a conclusion, then i can't argue with that. personally i think the two officers must be happy with the verdict/sentencing.

i don't like the recovering part of dragon boat. sometimes i underestimate the level of the water and end up splashing the person in front of me. and most often it's huimin.. opps

but what comes around goes around and then in the next set someone from behind would dump water into me. and it's hard to row with water dripping down upon your eyes. and u just end up squinting ur hurting eyes. waiting for the set to be over and so you can wipe your eyes!

Why? Cause rowing alone during canoeing sessions gives me time to push myself...just myself...and just reply on my own abilities...i like tat..

and competing together in a dragonboat just gives a great feeling of us being a TEAM!

i think some rowers feel that after rowing dragonboat, you need to sweep harder on one side when u go back to canoeing.. but i don't have this problem leh... maybe bcos i haf rudder...

haha... i would say i prefer canoeing...
but not so because it's alone.

but the dragonboat very yuck (especially those old ones where your feet are stuck in this mixture of yucky river water and algae and all sorts of other murky things).

have to wear the filthy/smelly/huge sdba lifejackets and see the lian3 se4 of that errm what's-his-name-guy-who-wears-tights-has-glasses-and-coached-nyjc?

have to open the cupboard with all the lizards and thousands of ants and rats and rat shit (just ask huimin!). haha. (thinking about it gives me the shivers)

and then the endurance sets are one of the most shack things ever! the 20 minute non-stop sets...i can still remember. got to move like a machine. reach,dip,pull,twist,pullout,recover,reach and the process repeats itself.

what say you?

which do you prefer: canoeing or dragon boat?

i prefer dragon boat cos everyone is in it and i just love the atmosphere of a team sports!

xiancong...yes yes.... always crave asian food. even though it maybe a bit westernised. hor fun!!

I went back every year! ahhaaha..its kinda cool to go back and see all the 'kids' around and wonder if I looked like tat then.ahhaa...

And Nigel: you should go back and find Mrs Soh, she asks about you whenever I see her, and I do update her about you and Boon Tat when I go back. =)

from what i recall i thought the uncle moved to some hawker centre already, quite some years ago. haha but where else can you find reasonable western food for just under $2.50 to $3?

not sure if the person who took over sells western food or not.

wow, to think that the last time i actually set foot in NJ...was when we collected our A level results. i think that was my last time so far. so long ago.

do they still have western food at NJ? I can't remember whether it was still there when I last went back over the summer...

Well...all I think of eating now is asian food..man...i need some fried kway teow...=p

yeah man... i resented the fact that i couldn't eat western food fries nor mayo.....my only form of indulgance!
but then again, i never really listened.
if no one at the canoeing table, i'll sneek to the western stall. and since i took odd combi with weird random blocks of no classes... hahah... i took advantage of that! and besides i sat at the other end of the canteen :)

when i was about to sleep last night i had this funny recollection...

i and qq were eating western food - the tender and crispy chicken cutlet with fried omelette and fries.

mingjie comes along and then in his usual semi-amazed/disgusted look+tone, says, "wahhh laoo western food ah!"

haha funny, thinking about his face when he said it.

hey, guess what i found on some website/forum which features the local dragonboat scene:

NJC has always been a force to be reckon with in the local dragonboat scene. However, they really did make an impact in this 8 Jun National Championship Mens Open Finals. They came in with a convincing win...and I mean convincing!!!!


It has make us convinced that size is not what that matters in Dragonboat. It is the technique and coordination. The NJ team wasn't big and massive. However dun be deceived as they are the 'chili padi'; small but hot!! They shot off to a great start with a convincing half boat lead just after 10 strokes.... and they are not looking back. Pulling away with every stroke... They really kill off the competition....

Three cheers to NJ and their coach... wonder if they are from Matrix and the coach is Morpheous and their drummer Neo!!!

i think there was this time at SDBF (year 1) when this particular boat sank. they just took in a lot of water and suddenly, they were rowing downwards instead of forwards. quite hilarious.

anyway, i think it will just feel cold. then tired cos have to swim back to shore.

results for today's dragonboat race (for alumni):
- womens open 1st
- mixed 2nd

hope u guys received adrian's email which has a complete narration of all the drama that happened.

it's been so long since i went down for a race. being a drummer feels quite good.. haha. can feel the wind in my face by just sitting there doing nothing.

1 more month and the remainder girls and some guys will be graduating. FYP all done yeah? JIA YOU!
