Anyone know how to stop Rosy Barbs breeding, I'm over run with them, Help!

You could try putting bromide in the water. This used to work quite well during the war when put in the tea to supress sexual urges.

Try gently increasing the temperature of the water to boiling point. I usually find this deters the fish from breeding and usually also succeeds in thinning out the numbers too.

I'm rearing Rosy barb and have long enough time to breed them. Anyone can help me how to differentiate the sex and what condition this species willing to spawn???

Joe,
When the fish are in breeding condition, the males are a lot more red in appearance than the females which remain a bronze colour. The males can also show black in their finnage. This is a very prolific species and not too fussy about water conditions but will do best in soft to medium hard water at a temperature of about 24C.

I have a question do the female barbs get really fat, I just relized one of mine are, and I dont know if she is pregnant or just eating too much Please help!
