Hi all
A bit of advice is needed please. As the subject line says, my Gold Angels have spawned today on the filter intake pipe (in a 5' community tank), for maximum fry safety (if they hatch ok)should I try and remove this to a breeding net or will the parents defend the young. Any help is welcome.
Cheers
Dave

Dave,
You can never tell with Angels, Some make good parents and guard the eggs while others don't. I had a pair that spawned every 8 to 10 days but never ever looked after them. in fact they used to eat the eggs themselves.
I used to remove the eggs which were always on a piece of slate and hatch them in a seperate tank. Obviously you wont be able to do that if they are on the filter pipe. I suggest you try and get them to spawn on something you can remove next time.
It is always worth leaving them a few times to see if they will protect the eggs although they rarely get it right the first few times.
Good luck!
One other point to note, Gold Angel fry seem to have smaller mouths than the normal strain and will need smaller food. I use baby brine shrimp for standard angels but have found this to be too big for the golden variety.

Cheers Martin, I ended up removing the eggs (well most of them) as the parents did start to feast on them, luckily the pipe was one of the multi part ones. I've got the eggs in a 12" tank now with a sponge filter, can't stop peering in though to see if I'm going to get any hatch.

Update ....
They've hatched!!! (about 20 - 25)
Now I've just got to keep them alive.

Dave,
No problem!
Plenty of brine shrimp about 5 times a day and keep an eye on the water quality.
God luck
