i was given a group of 4 firemouth cichlids by a friend who has now left the country(typical)
i noticed one fish is completely different to the others. It has a mottled brown|creamy pattern on its body and blue spots around its head.the other fish just hide up while this one roams around as if he owns the tank.!!!!
i have tried to identify it by books and on the internet but at the moment not much luck.
any ideas

Hi Donna,
It sounds to me like this fish is not in fact a Firemouth. Without a picture it is difficult to say but it sounds like its a more agressive species of cichlid.
Is there any way that you can get a photo of it to me.
I will try and identify it for you.
Sounds a bit like a fish from lake Malawi called Nimbochromis livingstonii or posibly N. venustus. Try looking it up in some books and see if it looks similar to your one. If it is not listed under Nimbochromis, try looking under its old name of Haplochromis.
Please do let me know how you get on.
Martin.

Hi Donna,
Try the Green Terror, Aequidens rivulatus. If this is what it is, it's a big, bad tempered fish in waiting!
