Lois, this has been going on since the beginning.

The early Mormons were not practicing polygamy. They were practicing "celestial marriage." And the concubines were not concubines, they were "spiritual brides." And now it's "covenant ceremonies." There's alway some subterfuge to try to hide what's going on.

This is just good corporate practice. Since the RLDS church became a private corporation and changed its name to "Community of Christ," it has followed standard business practices in the area of terminology. In the corporate world, nobody gets "fired." They get "terminated." Or, if they are high enough up in the hierarchy, they take "early retirement to pursue personal goals."

It's so bad that now vocabulary and description is defined by "paradigm." If the paradigm is description of everything in terms designed to turn away suspicion, the language is much different than if the paradigm is to simply tell the honest truth. If the paradigm is to justify an all out frontal assault on decency, then any criticism is labeled "hateful," "bigoted," and "mean."

If there were truth in advertising, the RLDS church would have taken the name, "209th Church of the Paradigmatic Jesus."

Alas, when a radical political activist group subverts an entire religion in order to exploit its tax-exempt status, I guess we can expect this sort of thing.
