Group Discusses Tough Issues

The setting was the Temple, where 47 members of the Expanded World Church Leadership Council and other leaders spent several days discussing culturally respectful standards of conduct. They emphasized issues such as same-sex marriage and ordination of lesbian, gay, *bi-sexual, and transgendered members.

Some asked why the topics even needed to be discussed. President Veazey replied:

"Something has to happen that helps us resolve this tension that is beginning to sap the energy of the church in some areas, so we can focus on missional endeavors.

We are at a very seriouos juncture. Now is the time to gain a better sense of the way we want to approach the journey into the future."

*Actually, the correct term is "ambisexual." A "bisexual" is an individual born exhibiting traits of both sexes. An "ambisexual" is one who is comfortable with both homosexual and heterosexual practices. One of the problems with people pretending to give wise spiritual counsel is the palpable ignorance they operate from.

This ties in with an account related to me by my father. My father was born in 1924, so he and his contemporaries were familiar with the Ford Model T. Since the Model A was introduced in the late 1920's, the Model A was approaching obsolescence. And, of course, any vehicle approaching obsolescence became less expensive to the point of being financially affordable to teenagers as the years wore on.

One of his friends had a Model T he had repaired and made drivable. He then ordered a huge horn from a mail order catalogue. Although my father reported that the young man's parents remained silent about all this, but added, "even though they knew what was going to happen."

When the horn arrived, the proud owner put it on his Model T and drove off to announce his presence to the community with his top of the line warning device. However, everytime he gave a loud resounding blare from the horn, the car stalled. You see, electrical auto accessories were rare at that time: the horn operated off the engine vacuum, and overutilized it to the point that the engine could not continue running while the horn was being honked.

The attempts of the homosexual activists to take over a small church of modest means and exploit it to make public statements favorable to their agenda have done the same thing to the Community of Christ. GALA has been grafted onto the church, and every time GALA seeks to fulfill its mission of raucusly telling the world that it is normal to be "gay," the Community of Christ stalls.

The young man solved his problem by taking the horn off the car. If the Community of Christ wants to go "into the future," or anywhere else, it is going to have to uncouple GALA from the church and tell its supporters to parasitize another ecclesiastical organization -- perhaps one with a much larger engine.

But, the Community of Christ may decide that it is more useful to park at the intersection and honk at everyone who is actually going somewhere.

He that tooteth not his own horn, the same shall not be tooted.
