Lois is pretty much correct on all counts. The Community of Christ leadership and most of the members would prefer to belong to Metropolitan Community Church, or to the Unitarian Universalist Community (which would welcome them bringing their Books of Mormon to church to sit next to the Muslims and the atheists who are part of the "diversity" worshiping with that group.)

But, of course, if one leaves the CofC, or disbands it, nd joins another sect to enjoy the niceties of turnkey liberal theology, one will get busted all the way back down to catechumen, and have to work one's way up from there. That humbling is just too hard for members of an authoritarian priesthood to endure.

It is much more blessed to order people around and spend the money in a church one does not believe in than it is to serve in a church more compatible with one's world view. If Mr. Veazey and the Quorum of Twelve were to jump ship and go to a denomination that officially proclaims their personal points of view on homosexuality, do you think that Mr. Veazey would be allowed to assume the office of president there, or that the apostles would be allowed to keep their offices?

All these quorums.... The three, the twelve, the seventy....
