"Signas, we have a report coming in!", Alia shouted.
"What is it?", Signas asked. They were inside the Hunter control room, at Maverick Hunter HQ.
"One of Doppler's ships is breaking away from the battle, and heading right here toward Earth!"
--Meanwhile, on board the flag ship---
"Ensign, prepare to fire on my command!", Byte orderd.
"Aye aye sir!"
--back at the HQ---
"Signas, it looks like he's going to fire a nuclear missle at Dr. Doppler's Island."
"What?", Douglas asked. "He'd be comitting suicide!"
"No. It seems that way, but he's got a hardened underground base. Besides, Doppler knows that a high altitude blast won't affect him."
Alia seemed to understand! "But, it will affect everything with an electric circuit for thirty miles. The blast wave creates a pulse. A radiations surge called EMP."
"Electromagnetic Pulse.", Signas said without missing a beat.
"Unbelievable!", Douglas stammered.
"He's going to be murering everyone. Castendo's forces, our force, even his own!", Alia was shocked.
"Unless, he orders his forces to retreat, or unless they are shielded from this kind of explosion."
"Wait sir. This report is coming from our submarine commander. They report a similar reading coming from a submarine deep underwater. He's going to detonate two nukes?", Alia asked.
"Hmm. So history repeats itself yet again.", Signas replied.
"Huh?", Douglas asked.
"In this, Doppler is copying nuclear tests done at a place called Eniwetok, or Bikini Atol. They detonated two atomic bombs there to test the effect on ships, and other things. Doppler knows that a simultaneous detonation will end this battle in the air, on land, and underwater. We would also stand to face the complete loss of a third of our forces. That is unacceptable."
Signas took a moment. "Plus, we have received reports of a massive mission failure from Mega Man X's team of infiltrators. Only, I do not know if X or IO have been captured."
"What should we do?", Douglas asked.
"I don't want to withdraw our forces from the moon, but we may have no choice. Zero might be our only chance of stopping both of them. But it would take two whole days for him to get back here, and by that time, our forces will be decimated. Order a full retreat of our forces, and tell all of those who are in deep conflict to try and get inside Doppler's base. I also want to go to a full alert around here. Alia, how long unil both misslies explode?"
"Judging by the trajectory of the ship, and the distance it will take for the missle to reach the target at full velocity, I'd say ten minutes."
"What about our underwater forces? Should we have them try to dismantle the bomb?", Douglas asked.
"No, more than likely, it will be rigged to explode if anyone comes near it. Besides, we still have to account for the arial strike. That ten minutes could be used to get as far away from the island as possible. Order a full retreat!"
"Ordering retreat sir! This is Alia to Maverick Hunter Fleet Commander. Pull Back! Executive order, full retreat! Commander....get your people out of there!"
