Subject: Working on The X-Files, DAY 2--with DAVID and GILLIAN!

Hi ALL!

Wow! What a crazy day we had! Some wonderful things happened, a couple things ticked us off but all in all we had a great time!

I hope you all don't mind if I descibe this is fairly great detail. Part of it is so I have my own account of it for me while it's still fresh in my mind.

We went in a little bit later (about 11:40am) because they were still working on early morning scenes where the extras weren't needed. While we were outside on the street in line who do we spot being driven right past us in the parking lot and then down the street also right in front of us in a black SUV but GILLIAN ANDERSON herself talking on her cell phone! Zip! There she goes, and then she's gone! I think she'd just been inside filming.

Don't worry, it gets better. MUCH better! :-)

We then went in, our group expanding to 6 people: me, G-WW, Carol and Celeste from Friday and also a couple others, Jill and Ann. As we rushed in it seemed like everyone wanted to be in the farthest two sections on the left of the auditorium (thinking they would be on camera the most there) but I grabbed the seats in the front row of the third section where no one was and our group decided we liked those seats. Even if we weren't on camera as much we wanted to be close to the action. I was in the front on the aisle and Carol and G-WW were in the row with me with the other three plus a woman from Australia(!) in the second row. There were more people today. A lot who returned from Friday and many new ones. People came from all over including Italy, South Africa, Germany and New Zealand! Still it was kind of a small group compared to what they were expecting. Good for us because we have a better chance to be on film but not for those who couldn't attend.

We didn't have the same great production assistants taking care of us this time and frankly the new ones weren't quite so accomodating. We didn't quite get the same royal treatment. No special treats, all we got to eat was pizza and sodas and Allison and Elmer who treated us so special before weren't there and we had new people who didn't interact with us much.
The same comedy MC (named Dave) was back again all day doing trivia questions and raffling off prizes.

Oh one thing I forgot to mention last time was that some people came up and performed a talent in order to win an XF t-shirt.This one woman who was the hit of the day last Friday was brought up for a repeat performance. Is everyone familiar with Scully's "you want me to do an autopsy?...lite cream cheese" speech to Mulder in Bad Blood? Well this woman did the whole thing while doing an impression of the actress Rosie Perez! Very funny! It got a huge ovation. Some guy also repeated his Chewbacca from Star Wars impression and a girl came up and sang, leading us all in a chorus of Joy to the World from the ep Detour. :-)

As for the goings on with the filming, we watched as some of the standins were blocking out scenes. One of them was Steve Kesiak(sp?), David's other standin. He's even better looking than Brett Bell and also looks more like David. Quite a bit fom a distance! He was in street clothes. Once again we are called on to act and do our pantomime cheering of the wrestling match without making sound. Or as Barry Gordon, the First Assistant Director calls it PAN-TO-MIME! Well you'd have to hear him say it but it sounded funny! He was there all day directing us again. Today he told us he also went by his nickname, Sugar Bear!

Then a little while later while I was looking at the wrestling guest star Tex Cobb who had come up in the stands to visit, G-WW, gets my attention to look at what's going on in the center of the room. Eh, it's just some guy in black dress pants, an untucked in wrinkly white dress shirt and a sloppy tie. What's his name? Oh, yeah, DAVID DUCHOVNY! The man is now in the building with US! Whoo freakin' Hooo! :-) :-) :-)

This was kind of a different feeling from seeing him on Jay Leno because, well, he's there to work on The X-Files and do his job an we get to watch him do it :-) There he is in that element he's been in for the past seven years and we are finally a witness to it! And also really great when you think about it is that he's now in his Mulder clothes and about to do his Mulder thing so essentially we are now in the presence of Fox Mulder! :-)

He's getting ready to do the first scene we see of him which is a bit of dialog with the guest star we saw on Friday, Kathy Griffin. The scene is being filmed on the opposite side of the auditorium from us. It's not a super big place so we can still see him except when other people or camera equipment are blocking our view! Argh! I guess they need those cameras though, ha! ha!

When David was walking around a bit shortly after he came out the fans were making noises. We of couse can't be yelling and bother the man while he's working on an XF shoot so AD Sugar Bear said to us, "OK, let's get it out of your system. Everyone say, "Good Morning David!" So we all said "Good Morning David!" in unison and cheered. He acknowledged the crowd with a nice but not over exuberant wave. More like just raising his hand and arm to us to say hello and then it was time for him to work.

Note: In order to describe what we saw next I'll have to do a bit of
spoiling but I won't say anything major. Plus it's not a crucial myth ep so there's no major plot to be revealed. Chris Carter wrote this one and it seems a bit light hearted but not an all out comedy one. LOL on one XF fan who didn't want to hear the MC describe the ep because she didn't want to hear spoilers! Eveyone made fun of her and the MC kiddingly called her an idiot! Yep we all were spoiled by some of this ep but you don't mind being spoiled when you're in it!

OK back to David, The first scene has him coming out one of the tunnels and down the steps (tunnels like in a football stadium though this place isn't nearly that big.) He walks down and goes toward Kathy Griffin where we get to here him say out loud and in person "I'm Fox Mulder with the FBI."! That was pretty cool! There he is...Mulder himself! :-) Talking in his Mulder voice! Yay! He did the scene a few times. The spotlight coming out of the tunnel cast an interesting shadow on David when we saw him walk back up the steps to do the next take. :-)

When you see this scene you may notice behind David someone has the "Death Angel is a Saint"
sign I had on Friday. They redistributed the signs and that's not me holding it this time. We were not behind David but on the opposite side of the auditorium.
The scene ends with David picking up a woman and hoisting her over his shoulders. He carries her just out of camera range and then they cut. They do this a few times. Once on his way back up the tunnel we hear him yell, "You want me to come out?" and then I think he said "Later" (I couln't hear it, myself) and he disapeared into the tunnel. While setting up for another shot David is hanging around and people on the arena floor are talking to him. We did see the woman who gets to go up and fix his hair from time to time, that lucky gal!

At one point he sits down and some woman from the crew comes up and talks to him and gives him something on typewritten pages and he's reading them. Later he is brought the copy of the new Entertainment Weekly that he's on the cover of! Someone shows him the cover and he takes it and shows the cover to someone else! I wonder how he liked the pic of himself! Then he opens it up and starts reading it. My guess is this is the first time he's seen this and wants to see how his article turned out. (I hope he didn't get his words twisted again by the interviewer!) All this is taking place kind of in the middle of the floor but more toward the other side away from us but close enough so we can watch him. At another point he sits way on the other side behind a pillar and all we see is his arm in his white dress shirt, Ah, we know that arm! Every few minutea we would have to locate him again to see where he was in the room. There was so much going on with the MC entertaining us between shots and all the crew people milling about.

David only read the Entertainment Weekly for a couple of minutes and then had to get up to be in the next scene. This starts after he's on the floor (continuing the scene where he came down the steps) and has him picking up the woman and carrying her over his shoulders again. This time it goes a bit further and he walks toward the wresling ring where they play out the scene with Tex Cobb who is fighting Van Dam again. They do this several times. David usually put the woman down right away after they yell cut!, but one time he seemed to be showing off and continued to carry her all the way back again to the orignal spot! Mr.Muscle Man trying to compete with the wrestlers? ;-) Carol said on one take while David was carrying the woman and Tex Cobb was carrying Van Dam in a wrestling move she caught David saying to Tex, "You wanna trade?"

During this second David scene we are asked to do our pantomime cheering again. We aren't sure if our section will get on camera much from that angle but we do our acting bit anyway!
After that scene David walks up the ramp leaving the auditorium.

End Part One

Continued in Part Two with the BEST still to come! Oh Wow!........

Detoured :-)
