A good, long read there IG and although I have yet to see S8, I am with you on all your points. I don't say this because I don't like RP (who I have yet to see and intend to give a fair hearing to) but because I *do* like Mulder. And the show without him can never be the same show I watched for seven years in total bliss. For me, he was the heart and soul of the series and if there was a mistake made by CC, it was making a show with a great myth-arc, directly involving Mulder and his family and creating a fantastic basis for in-depth study of him, specifically. Because now, to go away from that and try to pretend the show was intended to be monster-of-the-week is far too late. When it developed into government conspiracy territory etc, it became much more popular - these ideas caught the imagination and people lapped it up. With Mulder in the centre. Therefore, without him it has to be considerably weaker and what all fans fear happening will happen - it will die limping, rather than triumphantly winning the hundred metres!
