I've noticed that the vast majority of fanfics, spoofs, etc. seem to take place at some point in the pre-Requiem days. I think almost everybody still considers Mulder and Scully the "real" XF agents. I'm honestly not trying to bash Doggy here, just making a point that a lot of people have never even *heard* of him, if they're just casual viewers or whatever.
Mulder-and-Scully (ususally said just like that; almost as if it's one word), on the other hand have entered the nation's (maybe the world's?) cultural consciousness. Even people who have never watched the show have at least a vague awareness of who they are and what they dol.
