Subject: Interesting stuff from the AP Entertaintment Wire

I found this on the Associated Press Entertainment Wire and thought you might be interested. I've added a couple of comments of my own.

It’s Suspense as Usual for Fall Lineups (Hollywood)|
|By Brian Lowry|
|(c) 2001, Los Angeles Times|
HOLLYWOOD — Fox is playing out yet another behind-the-scenes cliffhanger regarding ‘‘The X-Files’’: The network is preparing to announce a revised prime-time lineup that includes a ninth season of the series but as of press time had yet to close a deal with the program’s creator, producer Chris Carter.
*From me: Could it be that CC actually *realizes* that the show basically sucks without the Mulder/Scully interaction and that the longtime fans are praying for it to end and he agrees with them?? Nah. . .most likely he's just holding out for more money!

Moreover, star David Duchovny — who has appeared sparingly this season — won’t return to the show, though the actor’s representatives have not ruled out cameo appearances.
*From me: So what, exactly, is the difference between that and what he's been doing this season?? From what I understand, his appeareance in the final episode of "The Lone Gunmen" was a "cameo" but he was on screen as much there as he was in such XF eps as "DeadAlive" and "WI/WO" which were both billed as "Mulder eps". And, even if he came back on a more regular basis, CC has made it clear that he'd only do some weird matchup like Mulder/Doggett or Mulder/Reyes, not give us the an entire Mulder/Scully ep, like we crave. The only reason I've been watching these last few weeks is to catch the 20 seconds or so of Mulder/Scully interaction we get in each episode. That could easily be accomplished with DD only making "cameo" appearances.

Down-to-the-wire negotiations have become almost a tradition on the program, with Fox and Carter still said to be far apart on contract issues.
From me: in other words, they do this every year to drum up interest in the show.

Not helping matters, sources say, is the fact Fox probably will cancel Carter’s ‘‘X-Files’’ spinoff, ‘‘The Lone Gunmen,’’ which has languished in the ratings on Friday nights.
From me: Well, sorry. I liked "The Lone Gunmen". But I've liked a lot of shows over the years that were as good or better than "TLG" and they didn't get to remain on the air for ten weeks while they languished at the bottom of the ratings.

Fox officially presents its fall schedule to advertisers in New York on Thursday
Don't know exactly when on Thursday. If it comes across before I leave work, I'll post an update.

Another item of interest: CBS is adding an X-Filey type show to its fall lineup for next year called "Wolf Lake". The star will be Lou Diamond Phillips who, from what I understand, was the runner up to RP for the role of Doggett.
