Subject: XF references in a book I'm reading

I'm currently reading a mystery novel called "Indigo Slam" by Robert Crais. It was published in the late 1990s, at the height of the X-Files craze, and apparently the author must have been a huge X-phile, because XF reference abound. A teenage girl has a poster of DD in her room, another character sports an XF T-shirt and when the detective meets a (male) police officer named Scully, he immediately asks "Where's Mulder?"
I wonder if Crais -- who was a published author and obviously a huge fan of the show -- ever contacted CC about the possibility of writing an ep?
