Subject: A nice thing about XF. . .

One of the things that I thought was nice about XF was that whenever Scully was having a near-death experience, her mother (and, occasionally, her sister or brother) actually showed up and visited her at the hospital. Which is, of course, very realistic: generally family members *are* the ones most likely to be around when a person is hospitalized.
But in most crime dramas (i.e. JAG, NCIS, the various CSI's, etc.) whenever one member of the team is in the hospital fighting for his or her life, the only people who ever show up to visit them are. . .other team members!! It's like these characters are presumed to have *NO* life outside of their professional associations. Not only are they unmarried, they apparently have no parents, siblings, old friends from high school or college or any other sort of connection with anybody else on the planet except their co-workers.
