Subject: CC talks about the possiable 9th season of The X-Files *Slight spoilers*

Chris Carter is talking about the coming two-part X-Files finale as well as the odds of the program going on to a ninth season... with or without Duchovny.

While talking to TV Guide Online, Carter addressed a number of points about the coming series and/or season finale, starting with why he chose to have Mulder team with Doggett rather than Scully immediately. Carter revealed, "I thought it was an interesting new dynamic... We had a chance to change the dynamic this year, and I thought there was another chance to increase the dynamic so that we could, in fact, reunite Mulder and Scully at the end of the show in an interesting way...It seemed natural to us. And I think as you watch the two-part season finale, you're going to see that there is a good logic behind it."

Carter also covered the details of Scully's pregnancy, saying, "First of all, we have a woman who is pregnant when all medical evidence pointed to the impossibility of that pregnancy, so we've got something strange already. We've got the possibility that it is an alien pregnancy. We've got the possibility that... this baby [was] produced by some kind of strange invasive science. And then we've got the possibility that it's a miracle."

When asked if Mulder is the father, Carter answers, "There is that possibility as well."

Regarding the finale, Carter admits that it's focus will be on Scully giving birth, saying, "Yes, but we get to it in a rather indirect way and then it becomes the centerpiece... I will say that you can expect the appearance of three wise men."

He then adds, "Then I will say that you can expect a significant death in the two-parter."

As for a possible ninth season of the series, Carter reveals that he and Fox are currently in the midst of "constructive negotiation."

As for Duchovny, Carter says, "I haven't spoken with him specifically about it, but I know that we had a really good, and I felt sweet, send-off for him his final night a little over a week ago. And whatever decision he makes, we have done eight terrific seasons together, and if there are more, great. And if there are no more, I will figure out a way to hopefully make the show as good as it can be."
