I agree with you that Season 8 *REALLY* needs to be the last gasp of "XF" as a TV show. And I definitely agree with you that we need more "XF" movies as soon as possible. You make some good points, (that I hadn't really thought of) about the physical limitations of the characters as they age, the impact of a thirtysomething face versus a fortysomething face on the big screen, etc. I like the idea of a second child, too.
The only part I don't agree with is the idea of there ever being a final, definite end to "The X-Files". I really like the idea of Mulder and Scully going on virtually forever, with one movie every three or four years until either DD or GA passes away. Maybe, as time went on, the movies might focus more on their child/children and a bit less on Mulder and Scully themselves.
Are you familiar with a TV detective called "Columbo"? He had a series on American TV back in the 1970s. The series ran for eight or nine years, but was eventually cancelled. However, every three or four years they still do a "Columbo" TV movie. (There was one on earlier this week.) The same actor — Peter Falk — still portrays Columbo and I think he was about 40 when the series began back in 1970 or so; must be at least 70 by now. If Columbo can live on as long as the actor who portrays him does, so can Mulder and Scully!
