Even if GA/Scully could carry the season by herself or with the help of all those other characters like you said Islandgirl, there are fans, like me, that aren't interested in just Scully episodes, regardless. I would not be interested in episode after episode featuring only Scully, even if the secondary characters are written in for a minute here and there. The other characters would have to have very large parts to keep me viewing if these eps were all Scully-centric. "En Ami" is a good example.

Maybe that was one thing CC & Co took into account when bringing on board another male actor, although I think they were way off the mark to think just any ole actor would satisfy Mulder fans. I don't really think of it as thinking GA/Scully couldn't pull it off by carrying the show alone, I just think they thought a bigger audience would be achieved by widening the playing field, also like I have said, conflict creates good drama. Those facts plus the fact GA wanted more time off, left CC little choice. And this is a good way of easing into a season 9 without either DD or GA.

I think the new program has potential and I'll be watching; by now I'm too curious not to. But I don't think I'll be interested in any just Scully eps. like "all things", and Doggett, well I intend to give him a fair chance. Mulder he will never be; I dont expect it, but lets see how he can stir the pot. Maybe he has a pocket full of wrenches to throw into the works.
