Subject: A question for you longtime Philes (Krycek/Doggett comparisons)

Okay, this is kind of linked to the Doggett-board discussion, but that thread is getting too darned long, IMHO. From what I've gathered most Philes (not just on these boards, but elsewhere, too) are divided about 60/40 on the idea of an entire "Mulderlite" season. Most of us (the 60 percent part, which includes me) think it's a stupid idea but a substantial minority (the 40 percent part) seem to think it can work out okay if they handle it right and we should give Dogface a chance.
Now we come to the part where I need input from people who were both watching the show AND connected to the internet during Season 2. (I didn't start watching 'til midway through Season 4 and didn't get on-line til midway through Season 6.)
If my understanding is correct, CC was SERIOUSLY pissed off at GA's real-life pregnancy and was within a hair's breadth of simply writing Scully out of the series. When Krycek was introduced, it was apparently with the possible idea of making NL and DD the two leads and either killing Scully off or relegating her to a supporting role. (This would have put an end to all those "Moonlighting" comparisons that so annoy CC. Of course, it could have led to "Starsky and Hutch" or "Miami Vice" comparisons!)
So. . .what did everybody think then?? Did they basically feel that, as long as the writing was crisp and the plots inventive, it didn't really matter which two agents they had investigating the X-Files? Or, even then, did a lot of Philes feel it was the unique relationship between Mulder and Scully that was at the heart of "XF"??
Also, did a lot of people believe Krycek was good up until the time he disappeared? This is a really hard thing for me to judge, because I already "knew" he was bad when I caught Season 2 eps like "Sleepless" in reruns.
