Hi cvl, duck is Scottish. Does that explain everything.:-). We Aussies don't slag anybody. We just love everybody.[smiling innocently]

I agree about the Simpsons and the humour. It is clever. But it is also very different to what the British or we would do. I think Americans do get irony but the subjects of it tend to differ. I think Australian humour is quite unsophistocated compared to others, like we haven't evolved past a certain type. Maybe that's why I think The Nanny is hilarious. I think we are only just starting to put some thought into it with shows like Sea Change and Frontline. The Simpsons is quite sophistocated and clever. Very culture based I think. I don't like sit coms much. I think my all time fav American sit com [I don't class The Nanny as a sit com] was Good Times with that tall skinny JJ. Very very funny. I think if a comedy is culture based then people from other countries naturally don't get some of it. It is not to say that it isn't possible for shows to be popular in other countries because, as you say cvl, they are. [Steve Irwin is great isn't he? Crazy but great. ]

As for Neighbours and Home amd Away, they are just trash but yes they are addictive. And I have noticed over the last few years, the odd times when I have watched them, that they copy off eachother. Neighbours just got a new family with three teenage girls and a wacko father and now HaA has got a new family with three teen girls and a wacko father. The storylines are so similar at times it's ridiculous. I have just recently tuned into HaA, it hasn't been too bad lately but I usually never watch these pathetic shows. But if I do I usually have to watch again the next day to see what happens. It's like Days of Our Lives. I've just begun watching that again after a long break. I want to see if Sammy comes out of her coma that has now lasted about a week. It must be a pretty long highway to Heaven. [I think she should go to hell myself.]

Anyway this has been an intersting thread people. I think we can say there is a bit of a culture difference but not too much that we can't see the same things or like eachother's shows. [If you ever get to see any of mine that is. ] It's what makes our talks about XF more interesting because we see it from different angles and it makes it more fun.
