Subject: Good new/Bad news about the second "X-Files" movie

Good news: There definitely will be a second XF movie. The Big Three (CC, DD and GA) are all absolutely committed to the idea of continuing "XF" as a movie franchise once it ends as a TV show. CC already has a rough draft of the script written. Even DD, who is heartily sick of playing Mulder on television, has said he would "love" to do another "XF" movie.
Bad news: The dates for filming and releasing the movie keep getting pushed further and further into the future. Originally, the idea was to end "XF" as a TV series this May, immediately begin working on the second "XF" movie this summer, and release the second movie next summer (2001). This would be a three-year span between the first movie and the second, which is pretty much the usual interval between movie sequels (i.e. James Bond movies, Star Trek movies, etc.) However, now that they've decided to do an eighth TV season, they're not filming the movie this summer. (Unless it's a *VERY* well-kept secret!) They also probably won't even film the movie next summer, for a couple of reasons. The first is that, most likely, GA and DD will both be unwilling to go directly into filming an XF movie after doing one more TV season than they really want to. The other reason is that, if they filmed next summer and released it in the summer of 2002, the movie would be in head-to-head competition with the next installment of the "Star Wars" series and I don't think they want to do that. So it seems they won't even begin filming until 2002 and the movie won't actually be released until 2003.
All this makes me wonder if we Philes really got such a good idea in getting an 8th season. After all, Mulder's only going to appear in about half next season's eps, so I can't imagine it will be anywhere as good as previous seasons. If they'd ended "XF" as a series this May, we would have gotten another "XF" movie next summer and, probably, a third "XF" movie in the summer of 2004. This way, we don't even get the second movie for another three years and a third movie. . .who knows?
