It is very similar to basket ball. Normal netball is played on a kind of soccer field, tarmac or grass, the size of a basket ball court. You have various positions like wing defence and wing attack.Goal keeper, goal defence, goal attack, goal shooter and centre. It is 22 years since I played netball. The indoor type I am playing now is more like basket ball in that there are only 5 players and you can choose which of the original normal netball postions you wish to use. We use the two goal defences, 2 attacks and centre. The rules are different to normal netball. More like basketball only you can't run with the ball and you can't bounce the ball. So when you get the ball you have to stop and you have 3 seconds to pass it and then run on and try to get someone to throw it to you again. You shoot from inside the goal circle, not outside like you are allowd to do in basket ball. Because I have been absent from the game for so long I don't know all the rules. I just do what the ref tells me. You can't knock the ball out of someone's hand because that is called contact. It is totally non contact and if you touch someone it is a free pass to them and you can't block them. Because we play in an indoor court surrounded by nets you can't touch the net while the ball is in your hand . If you do you must hand it over to the other team. We have only 15 minute halves which I love but no break in between. Good for unfit people like me. Three of the girls on our team are only in their early 20's and play alot. The other one and I are in our 30's and have really never played and are not fit. However we do ok. The other girl is thinking of pulling out as she feels she is not good enough. I told her not to. We are both in it for fun and socialising. I told her I would only pull out if the other girls wanted to get serious and win every game. So far we won everygame but last week. That is pretty good considering we played highschool kids last week and only lost by 2 points. We play on a fake grass court. The rings are smaller than basket ball rings and the balls are smaller too. It's really funny but netball is a winter sport and basket ball is a summer sport. I guess because most normal netball is played outside and basket ball is inside. I played basket ball at school for four years outside and it was quite warm to say the least. A silly game to have as a summer school sport.

Stardoe , hoping that was a clear explanation.
