the writers pick up on old themes and turn them into a new show. It reminds me of some of the old time romance novels my friends read in Jr. High. I decided to read some of them just so that we could discuss characters and plots. (I preferred mysteries and SciFi even at that age.) Anyhow, I spent the school year reading a variety of ones and found that the themes or plots pretty well followed one of several paths.

1. "Boy gets the Girl or Girl gets the Boy."
2. Same as the first one but they split up
3. Same as the second one but they get back together
OR
4. Same as the second one but they find someone else.

Now I know that television has had a variety of different programs but if I sat and thought about it I bet there are quite a few of the shows which could be categorized in a similar manner. You started a nice list in your post. I would add that if I followed both lists we could categorize quite a few shows.
