The Mayor lurches to one side, almost knocking Kande and CW over. They look in the direction the Mayor has pointed one trembling well-manicure finger. Kande cups her ear to try to hear better.

"It's coming from that barn in Stardoe's backyard," CW tells the two of them. "Sheesh, haven't you noticed that humming sound before?"

"No," Kande retorts. She's a little sensitive about her poor hearing. "What's causing it?"

"Hummingbirds," the Mayor decides solemnly. "Lots and lots of hummingbirds." She spreads her arms and starts to flit from side to side, pretending to sample flowers. Of course, it's mid-winter so there are no flowers, but that doesn't deter her.

CW sighs and grabs one of the Mayor's flailing arms and starts steering her towards Stardoe's laboratory. "We'll go ask her ourselves." Kande trails behind them.

"Yoo hoo, Stardoe! Anybody home?" Stardoe's laboratory windows remain stubbornly dark. The backyard by the barn is pitch black. "I think the humming noise is coming from this direction." CW leads the way by an inch, with the Mayor and Kande huddled close to her.

"I don't think this is such a good idea," Kande begins when suddenly a hole opens up in the ground in front of them. The three have too much momentum to stop and wind up falling.

"Oof!" KS had just figured out that the red dot on the ceiling comes from an infrared camera when she's tackled from above. "Get off me, you oaf!"

Kande springs to her feet in the darkness. "Who you calling an oaf? Who are you, anyway?"

"Your worst nightmare," KS informs her, as the two circle each other.

"What are the two of you talking about?" CW scolds. "You can't even see each other. KS, I know that's you."

"So?"

"So, knock it off. Where are we?"
