hissed Aunt Madge, smiling deviously. Knowing that look made CW and IG stop cold in their tracks. Looking at each other and then at Aunt Madge, IG signed "is she bluffing or is this a trap?"

"I'm not sure--let's see if we can stare her down--maybe her eyes will give us some information" signed CW out of Aunt Madge's view. IG noticed Aunt Madge's quick darting looks toward the door. There was a look in her eyes that IG couldn't quite figure out--was it fear or was it something else! Nodding, IG said nothing while starting her famous stare-down techniques.

CW began a thorough search of the walls, ceiling, door and floor. Nothing except that darn message--oh to have her knitting bag with her. Unknown to the rest of the gang, she had a secret compartment in the bottom which contained her secret weapons. Miss Marple had instructed her well in the fine art of snooping.

IG still in her stare-down mode began to notice something. Aunt Madge was ignoring her stares and kept glancing at her own feet on the bed. Grabbing the sheet, IG yanked it off and stared at Aunt Madge's shoes. There was something about them that wasn't quite right. The soles were all wrong. Since she was at that end of the bed, IG held her breath, grabbed the shoes and pulled them off. Gasping, she said "I've got it!"

Totally clueless, CW looked at IG and said, somewhat irritated, "Did you have to take them off her feet--the smell is enough to drop an army." Ignoring her complaints IG showed her the cryptic message on the bottom of the shoe. "What is it CW?" she demanded while beginning her stare-down with Aunt Madge. "Here, you figure it out" snarled IG, tossing the shoes to CW "I'm busy."

Deftly catching a shoe in each hand, CW began to look closely at them. They were a sensible but somewhat unattractive, brown walking shoe. "Whew, I thought there was a law against chemical or biological weapons" she muttered as she turned them over to check out the soles. "What's this?" she suddenly wondered. On the bottom of each shoe, next to the identical cryptic message from the door was a small circle which looked suspiciously like a camera lens. Running to the end of the bed she pointed each shoe lens at Aunt Madge who was wiggling desperately as she tried to escape.

There was an audible CLICK behind them as the tunnel door began to open. Turning around, the duo first stared down a much darker hallway and then back at each other. "Should we leave her here or take her with us?" asked IG. They both turned to look at Aunt Madge who was now working up quite a sweat as she struggled to get out of her ace-bandage ties. "Take her with--she doesn't want to go in there. She might be useful after all. Let's see what she's been up to and where this will lead!" whispered IG. "If nothing else, we can use these shoes as biological weapons" muttered CW.

Pushing the bed through the door they started down the dark hallway, looking for a light switch as the door closed silently behind them.
