I watch XFiles for a variety of reasons--most of them due to the variety of episodes, the combination of who-dunnit mysteries, espionage-intrigue, and the MSR. I used to watch Outer Limits and the Twilight Zone because their stories always had a different kind of twist to them. XFiles does the same thing. It filled a void in my life that used to be filled with reading. I haven't had a lot of time to read in the past 10 years. Now that the show is almost over and my kids have grown up I now have time to go back to the books. There are a lot of good authors out there who will fill my need for good stories. Heaven knows that television isn't able to do so any more!

What I see happening here with the XFiles reminds me of what happened with MASH and Cheers. After so many seasons the characters are just as beloved as they were on day one but in reality, how far can a series really continue to be fresh and exciting for the actors and writers? Maybe DD said it best (although I thought he was just trying to change the subject) when he told Jimmy Glick that the XFiles "ran out of stories." I just have had to resign myself to the very real possibility that DD and GA are just tired of the show.

What I do hope is that the movies continue and that both DD and GA continue to perform for their fans. It would be a real loss to lose them from the screen!
