Subject: Don't Judge Her Too Harshly
In reply to: Mary aka Firebird 's message, "Re: Lewis Jones" on 13:06:47 12/04/11 Sun

I think I've been quite negative at times about Barbara Jones' attitude at the funeral of her brother.

The whole family must have been running the full gamut of emotions during the whole service and burial, and there are only really a few photographs for observers to peruse. The photograph of the family at the grave (to be found elsewhere on this site), doesn't really give a true reflection of their grief - in my opinion.

Last week I saw a slightly different graveside photograph of the family, which clearly and poigniantly captured the anguish of Brian's parents, his aunt (Lewis's sister), and his sister Barbara. It looks as though the picture was shot from a slightly higher angle. I found the picture in a book called, "365 days of the Rolling Stones", or some similar (365 days) title.

The book was basically a picture book with some comments on the pictures and quotes from the Stones. There was an amazing shot (considering Keith's present stance on Brian), of the Stones in a dressing room and Keith is attentively combing Brian's hair.

This book was pretty cheap really, but I'm guessing it'll be hugely discounted this time next month, so I may buy it then. As usual, more pictures are attributable to the Brian period - over half - than to the rest of Stones history to whatever time the book was published. (This fact of course cements my recent calculations of how important Brian is in Stones folklore.)

The book seems to me to be a bit of a treasure trove of photographs, but some of the comments are dubious. For instance Lewis Jones' aunt was referred to (as did some recent poster here on LARS), as Brian's grandmother.

Clearly, the woman holding onto Lewis' arm at the graveside does not look like a woman well into her eighties. Though, no doubt, Brian's death did put years on the faces of some of the more sincere mourners - including the Jones' only surviving child, Barbara.
