I hear you, dear! I didn't mean to imply that YOU had any responsibility to care for your friend! Goodness, no!! I could have put that differently, alright. Forgive me for giving you that impression. Certainly a 22 year old would be tight-lipped about friends. Our ideas about loyalty and honor were very different at that age, even if our parents were "normal"! I was thinking about his family, who must have known he was ill. It takes someone who only cares that a person survive and live, not that they may be embarassed or have their career ruined. This is the job of close family, not their friends. Brian's family has gotten themselves a reputation for not caring if he lived or died. It may not be true, but they've done little in my estimation to dispel that reputation. Maybe his father, who I've actually heard talking fondly of his son, but never his mother or sister. Also, the Stones management weren't 22 year olds, and they literally threw him to the dogs!

My mother was the child of an alcoholic father and a diabetic mother who suffered from migrains. I'll never forget the tale of her pet goat. Her dad came home drunk one night and took an axe to momma's goat. She refused to eat it later, and got beaten pretty badly, so I'm aware of alcoholism and what it can do to the children of alcoholics. No wonder Brian stood so clear of his children. He was alcoholic and so was his mother...he remembered how she was, and maybe how HE might be!
