Being the kind of girl that she was, she had embraced school whole heartedly with an excitement that most nineteen year olds did not display when confronted with classes instead of summer. It was the first week and she already had all her books purchased, her notebooks labeled and a folder for each class. Yeah, she was a complete nerd and she was ok with that. Most of the classes she had on her own, though of course there were plenty of kids from highschool that attended RDU as well so she always knew at least one person. One class she had with Luke and it was an elective, something they had both decided to take just for fun. The history of rock 'n roll didn't even sound like an actual class in her opinion but it was fun and easy, plus entertaining enough to keep her darling boy's attention pretty well. A small smile played on his lips as she gathered her books up and then looked up when she saw a girl from her bio lab heading her way. They had been talking on and off in class for the past week and the chick seemed cool enough. Plus, Chelle could always use another girl friend in her opinion. A small smile played on her lips as she greeted Victoria, waving a hand in greeting. "Hey, Tori, what's up?" Slinging her bag over her shoulder - it was more an oversized purse than anything - she headed down the hallway towards the coffee shop where she usually met Luke about this time of day. "I am just on my way to meet the boy but you can join us if you want." Luke had yet to meet Tori and she thought that they might get along pretty well. The other girl was very trendy and into the latest fad at all times it seemed but she could also be very laid back too and had a good sense of humor. Looking around, she gazed around for a long moment till she spotted Luke leaning against the counter. "There he is, pretty boy isn't he?" Grinning a touch, she headed over to the counter, her hand going to rest on the small of his back as she leaned up on her tip-toes to press a kiss to Luke's neck softly, her fingers sneaking up the back of his shirt as she greeted him. "Hey baby....good day so far? Did you get me a drink?" Looking over her shoulder, she smiled at Tori and then nodded towards her. "This is my friend Tori, Tori, this is my boyfriend Luke."

Typically, it wasn't that unusual for him to be at the school even on a day that he didn't have a class, though it was pretty uncommon for him to be there early, at the very beginning of the day (more likely he would roll in around lunch time), and dressed as a professional (most of the time no teaching equaled casual attire of jeans and a tee). However, he had a companion who needed to be in class and he had had the energy and the drive that morning to get a little more dressed up, so rather than devoted his energy to working on preparations, he was more planning to stop in to his own classes which were being manned by his TA until he officially started back at work at the end of the week, and then he thought he would finally stop by the dean's office to meet with her like she had been begging him to ever since he got back. She seemed to think she needed a play-by-play of his sabbatical and an update on his life and thought that he should get a summary of what had happened at the university since he had been away. He wasn't really all that keen on a contrived visit to 'catch up' with his boss, but it was something he knew he couldn't put off forever and now seemed as good a day as any to stop by her office and try to catch her - maybe if he was lucky he would get squeezed in in between two of her other meetings so that there would be no risk of her talking his ear off for the entire day. Anyway, there were definitely things with which he would be able to waste his time, and really the most important thing was that Keila had to be there at school all day and so he wanted to be there as well even if he wouldn't really get to see her except for a short lunch break and maybe for a few minutes in between classes. Despite that they were running almost late, he still managed to find a parking spot in the staff lot near the front, so the walk wasn't too long and he figured she would have more than a few minutes to spare to make it to her class and get herself set up. Once parked, he grabbed his bag out of the back seat and hers as well and then crossed around to the passenger side of his car to wait to pass her her back when she got out. "You've got plenty of time. Not even late yet." He teased gently, ignoring the fact that she had been hoping to get there early... His brows furrowed gently as he waited for her to get organized before striding out to start the walk towards the building where he knew her office and her first class were. "Poor Nani. I feel really bad that I forgot all about her... You have class this afternoon too, right? Maybe I'll run by there and take her for a little walk... If you want, if you don't mind."

Even though things were far from being resolved and really not much in the way of progress had occurred between him and Keila, he was actually feeling a little bit better about life in general. Just the fact that they had had a discussion and expressed some of what they were both feeling and then even spent an as-normal-as-possible evening together made him feel like things could be figured out - one way or another. At least they weren't destined to forever act like they were merely acquaintances, he thought. With some things off his chest and at least out in the open, he had actually been able to start unpacking his apartment that weekend which meant that he had finally found his old lesson plans and whatnot, so that was the reason why he was actually out there at the school on a Sunday evening - sick of going through boxes but still wanting to be productive with his time. He was lounging on the couch in his old office on the faculty offices floor of the english building - all of the lights on the floor were off except for the hallways and his lamps in there, he hadn't seen another single soul all evening, and it was blissfully peaceful. Papers scattered over the coffee table in front of him, he was actually slouched down into the plush cushions with his feet up, having gotten distracted reading Gravity's Rainbow - he'd started just flipping through it when he was looking at old notes, but it had been forever since he had done more than just talk about it and repeat notes about it... The book in one hand resting on his chest, his free hand twisted and tugged and smoothed his wild wavy hair repeatedly - he could have just been reading at home, but now he was in to it and comfortable and would just read a little bit longer before packing up and heading home. A slightly-faded black band tee fitted to his torso, his jeans were faded and a bit tattered but perfectly fit, and his feet bare - sandals kicked off over by his desk...

It had been nearly a year since he had set foot on the university grounds - too long on one hand, yet not nearly long enough on the other. When he had left for his sabbatical, he hadn't know where he was going or what he was doing except that he was first off to Oxford to visit with a guy he had gone to school with. He had thought he would maybe spend the rest of his time back doing the volunteer charity work, but after a couple weeks in England, had decided that he wanted to travel Europe while he was still young and while he had enough money and the available time. So, he had ending up staying with his friend for a couple weeks before heading off completely on his own. Leaving home in the first place had been hard simply because of Keila. Things hadn't ended too well and the only consensus that they had come to was that she didn't deserve to have to wait for him. He was still pretty sure that she didn't get that he wasn't going away because he wanted to leave her - he was going away because he had to take full advantage of the opportunity while he could. It was impossible to say where he would be at in his life the next time he had the chance to take a year off of work. Even now, almost twelve months later, he still missed her and thought about her on a daily basis, even though they really hadn't spoken since they said their goodbyes. He had sent her a couple emails over the course of the trip, but nothing too personal - he hadn't wanted to make anything any harder than it needed to be. Anyway, he was back now, and in a matter of weeks he would be teaching again - with hundreds of new students fresh out of high school hanging on his every word and hundreds of papers to review on top of that and exams and readings and lectures to plan and give. He had missed work, though he could have spent another couple years traveling probably, and actually found himself a little bit glad to be back - and from the reactions from some of his co-workers, it seemed like most everyone was glad to have him back too. For an experienced, fully qualified professor, he was still so young and he secretly thought that some of the older lecturers enjoyed the fresh faces around. So, looking more like one of his students than anything, he was chilling out in the faculty lounge in the main building - telling stories and getting caught up with two older female professors and one male. Sporting a dark tan, his permanently mussed mop of hair sun-bleached a lighter shade, he was wearing only old faded jeans, a kelly green polo shirt, and flip-flops - his eyes were bright and a wide grin spread over his lips as he leaned forward on his chair with his elbows on his knees as he told a story about getting terribly lost on the transit system in Frankfurt...
