Go on and close the curtains
'Cause all we need is candle light
You and me and a bottle of wine
Boing to hold you tonight

She looked much more graceful than he did - he looked and felt like a bit of an idiot, standing there dumbly, unsure what to say or do. Part of being an english professor was that he usually always had the right words for a situation, except for now in this sort of situation. He was a little bit taken aback by her professional greeting, even though he knew it was technically more than he was owed - they weren't together any more, that was the number one conclusion that they had come to. For all he knew, she could be involved with someone else by now and there was no reason for him to expect her to come running into his arms. He nodded finally and found his voice just in time to avoid looking like a total fool. "Yeah, yeah sure. Good to be back..." He mumbled - oh so articulately - and then watched as she said goodbyes to everyone else and then disappeared out the door as quickly as she had arrived. For a moment longer, he stood there trying to decide what to do before making up a quick bullshit excuse and promising to catch everyone later to finish the story before hurrying off after her. He was only maybe two minutes behind her, but she was moving fast so he had to jog a few steps to catch her in the kitchen before she would have had time to grab her binder and get out of there. He didn't see her before reaching the secondary faculty lounge, but figured she should be in there still as he punched his number code to let himself in. "Keila?" He knew he wouldn't be able to just socialize with everyone else for the rest of the day and then go home to his empty apartment - all of his stuff still in the boxes he had had it in in storage for the year, and none of his laundry done, papers everywhere, furniture still not quite set up or arranged.
