He exhaled a sigh of relief against her lips before returning her kiss - encouraged just by the simple gesture which almost said more than anything she could have expressed with words, brief as it was - and then a low laugh slipped from him when she started speaking. He didn't mean to laugh at her... He just was happy to hear her rambling on in her typical manner. Silence from her was so disconcerting. A wave of guilt washed over him as she admitted that she had never expected any of this - he felt bad that she had apparently given up all hope and he hated to think that she ever doubted, or even had never known, that he loved her. It was his own fault though, for not being more expressive. He shook his head slowly, his forehead still gently against hers, and kissed her sweetly once more in an attempt to hush her only momentarily. "It's not rushed... This has been years in the making. I know I just got back, but being away from you for over a year didn't change how I feel - except that I realized how completely unhappy I am when I'm not with you..." He assured her gently - the english-literature professor in him despising that the one thought that crossed his mind was that terrible old adage about absence making the heart grow fonder. So cliché, yet a thought usually became cliché because it was so true... Didn't it? Something like that. His mind was reeling with thoughts - proud professor versus heartsick lover - so he was again relieved when she laughed about their food predicament, and then he touched her jaw lightly with the fingertips of one hand, the hint of a smirk touching his features. "We can't afford to have the best Thai restaurant in town put us on their wall-of-shame... I can run in and grab our food quick. You should eat before your next class... And this - all of this - it's not going away, I promise."
