He was still buzzing a bit as he went in to get their food, and glanced out through the glass doors a couple times to check on her in the car - just to be sure she hadn't disappeared on him. As promised, he was gone only a couple short minutes, and then was sliding back in to the driver's seat and handing over their lunch to her. A hand moved to touch the back of her neck before moving to turn the key in the ignition, but he stopped everything at her words. He didn't really think he could have this conversation and drive at the same time. Even though he knew he had to get her back to school sooner rather than later so she could teach her class, he left the engine off and shifted a bit in his seat again so he could look at her more easily. He was silent for a few long moments as he considered what she said - making sure he would only respond with something he meant, something he was sure of, and could promise her. "I'm not done traveling, Keila. You're right... But I'm ready to make a life here, with you. I can moderate how often and for how long I go away, take you with me when I can, when you want to. I couldn't stand to be away from you for a whole year again... There are places I want to go and see, but I'd rather go and see with you, on a vacation when we've got time off school or something... There are things I can do locally to contribute to the programs I've been working with. I don't have to spend three months in Kenya to make a difference. I'm serious, Keila. I've thought about all this... I'm not making empty promises." If there was one thing about him that was guarantee-able, it was that he would only ever make a promise he could keep...
