I know what you mean but I find it fun to see if they can pull it off through their acting skills. I had a chance to watch Bradley Cooper transform into his version of the elephant man on TV. It was amazing to say the least. He had no make-up but his rendition was quite believable even though I have seen photos of the poor guy he was portraying.
