There is no great mystery or surprise with the UB Bulls basketball team at 1-10. George Halcovage wasn’t even the first, second or third choice for UB. He was hired because he was willing to take UB low salary after UB was rejected because of the low salary. UB athletics has a lot of problems at this time. The UB AD Mark Alnutt has not been making good hires. Maurice Linquist is really struggling with UB Bulls football having had to fire both his offensive and defensive coordinators. Maurice Linquist was extended after his first season which is where Mark Alnutt judgement is question by UB Bulls fans. George Halcovage biggest mistake is going all young inexperienced basketball players and had no NIL to give like St Bonaventure Bonnies. UB Bulls can give NIL but there UB donors believe in facility building will get the recruits where at St Bonaventure donors we need to come up with as much NIL as we can raise. It’s two fundamentally different ways of building things.

UB has made a huge commitment to UB Bulls college football which is the way to go long term in my opinion for Western New York to protect the community that we always have some kind of football in the fall. Especially 20 to 30 years out from now where I as a Buffalo Bills fan I have serious doubts that NFL is still played in Buffalo after this new Bills stadium lease is up 30 years from now. UB Bulls football might be all the football this community has in Western New York. To sink money into another college basketball program where there is already three college basketball schools in Western New York wouldn’t be wise use of athletics dollars because I think Western New York college basketball is always going to be split 4 ways. George Halcovage isn’t a very good basketball head coach think Marty Marbach with us nice guy but he had no head coaching experience when Canisius hired him from a successful Villanova program. Because there is a huge difference between head coach making all the decisions in games and assistant coach. It’s sad as a UB Bulls fan that you can see George Halcovage isn’t a good head coach and there is nothing you can do about it until more time expires on his contract to buy him out or reassign him into the SUNY system like they did with Jim Whitesell that is at another SUNY school doing something next to nothing but different than the day before. Jim Whitesell and Reggie Witherspoon look like John Wooden compared to George Halcovage who can’t coach in my opinion. Go Griffs! Let’s Go Buffalo
