Subject: Answer the Call
Obviously there have been some spirited exchanges the last few days regarding Steve Stoute, the school, and as it applies to this forum, the basketball program. So while I have zero insight in to anything but the men's basketball program (and that has been diminished dramatically in the last 8-10 years), I do have a desire to chime in.
I have no clue who "Stop it" is and he/she has obviously not garnered a lot of support for the comments made, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have some frustration and trepidation surrounding an ever evolving and changing college athletics landscape. And while I have never met Steve Stoute (I rely on those who do know him and speak gushingly) and "Answer the Call" reads well, I remain cautiously optimistic at best. More about that below.
As many on this board know, I was a public school educator for more than 30 years and the president of one of the largest teachers unions in WNY for 13 years. During that time, I worked with 5 different superintendents and countless other district and building level administrators. Every one of them had an educational strategic plan (superintendent plans are eerily similar to "Answer the Call") - a standard for any administrator expecting to be hired. And not one came even close to ever executing the plan. Nowhere near close. So while I'm hopeful and people tell me how wonderful and dynamic he is, I've been down a very similar road. A plan is a plan. A plan and a buck fifty will get you a cup of coffee at Tim Horton's. Executing a plan that involves a new coach and staff, winning, a new arena, much more money in the program, increased student involvement, etc., etc.,etc. looks really good on paper but...it's a plan. People get hired based upon a plan, they are retained based upon the execution of the plan. Many get hired, very few are retained.
Go Griffs!

We’re right with you when it comes to frustration. President Steve has heard it from many alumni on the need for a change. Athletics is one of the best ways to build your brand. Your marquee sport also needs to monitored / managed differently with regards to expectations (wins, titles, etc.). Nothing is going to change in the next few months. Let’s hope at the end of the season he and the AD make this a priority for change. Continuing with what we’re doing makes no sense. Go Griffs!

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I would also like to be cautiously optimistic, but can you steer me in the right direction to get more information on the plan for the athletic program?
Do you have any insight how to obtain accurate information on the status of injured ballplayers and projected return to play or is that information considered private? Since I watch a lot of college basketball it seems that information like I am seeking is much more transparent.
This forum has been the place I get most of my information about the Canisius athletic program.

Here is the link to the strategic plan - Answer the Call
Unfortunately, this staff does not share anything at all regarding the status of injured payers.
