Subject: The Future is Extremely Bleak

So we have a program that hasn't been to the NCAA tournament in 28 years, will likely fire their coach, and as a result lose most if not all of their good players - have to believe that Mitchell, Dinkins, Siem, Tahj, Long are gone - has no NIL in place, a dwindling fan and booster base who they weren't transparent with regarding phantom injuries, a substandard arena, etc., etc. And personally, I see nothing changing. I know people want to sing Stoute's praises and how he's invested in improving the program and I hope you're right and I realize that with all of his other challenges, basketball may be low on the list - but I saw him at the exhibition game this year for maybe 20 minutes and that was it. I've missed more games in the last two years than I have in the last 30. It pains me to say it, but this year has been insulting and I may have finally reached my limit.

I think there will be a change. Yes, we will lose players. There is a plan for NIL and some of us have contributed to it. Sitting & doing nothing isn’t the answer. St. Peter Canisius pray for us.

Yeah ok. I keep hearing that. Sitting and doing nothing? We've done plenty and gotten absolutely nothing. NIL total would have to be a million dollars plus to even matter. Think you're getting kids for 500 bucks?

We don’t have millions but there is money.

Then why not tell people about it? So half a million? 100k? 10k? Why is everything with this program such a damn secret?

I hope they aren't considering D-2.

Who in their right mind is coming to canisius from the DI ranks.

Get a good DII coach. Indiana State may get an at-large bid with a guy who was coaching DII two years ago. Tobin Anderson was DII to FDU and upset Purdue. Hell, the head football coach at Alabama was a division down until he got his shot and has won at every stop in between.

For the recent history of this team they should thank Christ anyone even cares. Long was telling fans in December he'd be back in 2 weeks while Staveskie was running around on the court with his kid before games and according to the tv broadcast shooting around with one of the commentators yesterday morning. I've been a lifelong fan and my kid has one year left. Probably one more than me.

Those saying you’ve given to the NIL program that supposedly exists… how and where? They don’t seem to be publicizing it that I’ve seen. Do they have a collective? My understanding is schools can’t collect on behalf of NIL, so where are you giving your money too and why hasn’t it been promoted?

They do have a collective. I believe they're finishing up the website and will be communicating shortly. Not sure why nothing has been said. That is one of the issues with the program and coaches. Very little is communicated, this doesn't help to build energy or interest.

I understand your frustration with the coaches, but this one has to be on Bill Maher. Coaches are paid to coach, not navigate the complex legalities and NCAA rules surrounding setting up an NIL collective.

ADs are paid to navigate their schools to be successful and do these sorts of things.

The absence of NIL to date or feet dragging to get it launched publicly, lack of facility investment, overall decline of the programs across the board, (I could keep going) falls squarely on his office in my opinion. The lack of wins is what falls on the basketball office.

Confirming the above that there is a group of alumni that with some initial seed funding have worked to establish an organization, build a website, and are almost ready to launch the Canisius NIL Collective. Be on the lookout for further details via email and press release. And yes, this has all been in consultation Bill and the athletics department as allowable by ever-changing NCAA regulations.

Could you tell the people in the Athletic Department that working in silence doesn’t help their cause when looking for $. I give Bona Athletics credit they keep their fans & donors in the loop and are always asking for money. If you want a program that we can be proud of you need to keep asking for money. Communicating & fund raising is part of the job.
