Defections were probably going to happen regardless of whether RW was retained or not. And, players can always withdraw from the portal.

Maybe about half of the players who enter the portal find a comparable landing spot. There is no guarantee he'll start or have a better experience at his new destination.

Assuming the new coach is hired within the next two weeks, he'll have an entire month to convince players in the portal to remain, if he still wants them. He might want to clean house and start over with players who want to be here, and who share his vision.

I know every player personally and they all love Spoon and the assistants. The truth is that none of them were going to go. Now they're pissed and they're leaving.

And who is to say they wouldn't love the new coach, given the chance?

Reggie had his chances. He failed every time. Sorry to see these guys leave, they would certainly help in the transition period to the new coach.

But it was clearly time for a change and worry about the long-term consequences, not the short-term impact.

No they love their coach. Do you think they care about long term consequences? They have 4 or 5 years to play and want to play for their coach or they peace out. Why is that so hard to understand?

Supposedly the team loves Reggie but the rest of the student body must hate him, because no students show up, unless they get classroom credit.The team must love playing in an empty dead arena, while losing.It sure wasn't like that when Baron coached here.

Then you should understand why the university has to put the long-term health of the program over the wishes of players who won't be around in a year or two anyways.

Maybe they should give the new guy a chance before bolting. Everyone here probably had some girlfriends/boyfriends they couldn't live without until they found a better one.

Players can withdraw from the portal at any time it's open. They are under no "obligation" to transfer.

Nor is Canisius obligated to take them back, if the new coach doesn't want them. Of course it would be nice if at least some of them stayed to help in the transition, because we have some talented players.

Best of luck. Last year about 45% of the players in the portal did not find a new school.

His staff recruited them. What did they think was going to happen? They have a lame duck coach with no contract, two of your best players sit in the sidelines with phantom injuries for 80% of the season. These kids are smart and will leverage their success for the moment. Wake up, it’s now a business. NIL & the portal have ruined college sports. All of us have seen enough of this coaching staff. We’re not getting any better. St. Peter’s totally reset after the defections and have a second year coach which just won the MAAC. Have you ever seen that campus or gym? Trust me, we’re slightly ahead of them. I wish these kids the best but not shedding any tears. Go Griffs!
