Subject: NIL

While looking forward to todays press conference and to hear a little more about our new NIL I read with interest the buffalo news account of the Harrison kid from Timon going to Arkansas St as a Preferred walk on. The implications of the article is that since they have no scholarships available their NIL is going to pay his tuition. I assume there has to be some tax implications in this and perhaps other issues but bottom line is institutions with LARGE NIL amounts to offer can not only buy players they can essentially exceed ncaa scholarship limit if they throw enough money at a player to offset no scholarship. Whole thing has got to come under control if reasonable minds are to prevail but it appears we are now heading toward professional college althetes at these larger institutions anyway.

Griff 72: You're not the only one who read that. Once upon a time the NCAA (ha ha) had a rule limiting athletics scholarships (13 for mens hoops). I imagine Ark. St. can now tap into as many as they want. If the kid doesn't make the roster sooner or later (whatever that means) they can just cut him loose. Young Harrison might find interest in a scholarship and a uniform at say some where closer to home. For a full 4 years. And a job after graduation.

I heard a UB alum paid for his tuition. I know the name but not going to disclose it.
