Subject: Easterling in the FIBA U18

Played 5 minutes, had 1 rebound, and 1 turnover in Argentina's 88-66 loss to the US.

Can't believe he is anything more than a project at this point, better hope that a couple of the power forward type players on the roster can rebound and play interior defense, I guess it will be interesting at least to see what Christian's coaching style is, etc.

The first time I saw Mike Smrek was in a high school all star game at the Aud. The team he was assigned to started to warm up with lay ups. Mike began to dribble towards the basket and promptly tripped and fell, all 7' and what became 250 pounds of him. The pretty good crowd in attendance broke into laughter. I recall Mike getting to his feet with a smile on his face, and perhaps some embarrassment. When practice started in the Fall, I watched Nick Macarchuck's right hand man, Howie Dickenman run drills with Mike-see the ball, catch the ball, turn and shoot, on his way to an NBA career with two championship rings. Nick has said the only mistake he made with Mike was not Red Shirting him in his Freshman year. Projects can catch up, with COACHING, COACHING, COACHING. I think we have that again (finally).

Freshmen are not intended to be the cornerstone of any team. Hopefully he can be developed into an effective player.

Are they stuck on 66? I'll be surprised if Coach doesn't get Zo working hard during Summer Session. By the way isn't he the recruit with a 4.0 ? By the way #2, Griff thanks for all you do for us here.
