Subject: My Take on the Coach Christian Conversation

For those who couldn't participate, I jotted a few things down but most is from my ever deteriorating memory. For those who could join in - please follow up with what I missed.

*First the two most important things - he absolutely loves the Buffalo food scene but does not yet have a favorite restaurant. Celtics in the NBA finals.

On to the Griffs!

*Very much a "positionless" basketball approach. Really only sees Sangha (5) and Benard (1) as guys who don't have a lot of position flexibility because of physical size and make-up.

*Big on not recruiting kids with the same skill set. Wants a variety of guys.

*Not at all phased by NIL or the portal. Said there are still plenty of guys who just want a chance to play at the D1 level.

*Said that Thompson will really thrive as a 4/5 guy in the MAAC. At his previous two stops, he felt he was kind of pigeon holed in to being a 3 or a 3/4 and that obviously didn't work. Could not have talked more about what a great kid he is.

*EVP signing should be announced soon as will the the third assistant. Great athlete, great family.

*TJ Porter has had to have few medical procedures so not sure how he will be physically coming in to the year. Happy that Palesse decided to stay.

Easterling's mom is Argentinian - which makes him eligible to play on their U18 team - but in fairness to him, he's playing in a "foreign" environment with coaches and guys he really doesn't know. Said he has a huge upside and as an 18 year old kid, will benefit greatly by practicing everyday against a 25 year old Sangha.

*Although all different, he sees McMillan, Benard, and Scott as all having the ability to play the point. On paper, McMillan is probably their best player right now based upon his prior production. Benard is a true point who was recommended to him by a friend who is high school coach in Michigan. More on Scott below.

*Said Carter Jackson needed no convincing when it came to his commitment to Canisius. Has seen him play previously. Comes from a very good program.

*Oghene, Kopa, Godfrey can all really shoot it. Thinks Kopa is looking to improve other elements of his game and not be known as just a shooter. Couldn't understand why Oghene wasn't getting higher level interest. Thinks he can play both the 3 and 4. Talked about how dedicated and what a hard worker Godfrey is and how he chose to attend East Los Angeles JC.

*Couldn't say much about the schedule except verifying the @Maryland game, identifying that they will play in an MTE, and that they will be playing Bonaventure and will not be playing UB again.

*This is totally my take - and I was actually a little surprised - but the the three guys to me that he seemed to speak most glowingly about were Godfrey, Sangha, and Will Scott. Said that if Scott returned to JC next year, they probably wouldn't get him. Loves the toughness and maturity of Sangha and Godfrey.

A very fun evening. What did I miss guys?

Yes thank you. Did he say anything about possibly playing a Griffs game or two at the Key Bank Center this year? What about a new arena to replace the Koessler Athletic Center?

He did not get questioned nor did he comment on either. Unless something has changed however, I believe they will have to host a regular season game at the Arena during the 2025-26 season since Buffalo will host first and second round tournament games in March of 2026.

WTF is going on with the UB series? Perfect time to play them, when they stink. Makes me hate them even more.

Who cares about UB? I would rather play Bona & Syracuse. Go Griffs!

Frankly, George was a terrible hire and he's making the program worse. He believes he's still at Villanova and he's scheduling strategically to avoid losses or negative press.

I could care less about Syracuse, especially only playing them in the Dome. But Canisius & UB, who are literally 2 miles apart on Main Street, not playing annually is ridiculous.

Sorry, news alert. The guy is trying to figure out that he is not a Villanova anymore. Move on and take some money games to build your budget.
