Subject: Is the NCAA doomed to fail?

See that the 1983 NC State mens basketball national championship team is now taking action against ncaa for money damages for use of images in ncaa promotions etc. Can only be the tip of the iceberg coming in similar lawsuits against ncaa. Don't know what current assets the ncaa has or how future tv money is guaranteed but I would imagine there is a tipping point at which the organization has to consider a bankruptcy filing among its options to protect itself and if that happens and maybe even without that a total reorganization of college sports will occur. As many have commented the current state of affairs with power 5 or now power 3 or 2 conferences being essentially professional sports with payments to athletes and education being an afterthought it would seem necessitates a total over hall of college sports at the division 1 level and the likelihood of these unending lawsuits may speed up the process. I don't think that even current Athletic Directors have much feel for what is going to happen and the only real strength is probably the conference a school belongs to and what that conference can bring to the table stability wise in a reorganization of college sports. In my limited view the MAAC may be more important to Canisius and its member schools than can be appreciated, can't imagine that the current state of affairs can go on much longer .

I'm going to dumb this down because that's what I do best with my own simple mind.
The NCAA Tournament (which NC State won in 1983) is just that, THE NCAA TOURNAMENT. As far as I am concerned the NCAA sponsored this event, invited these teams, these teams agreed to participate allowing the NCAA to use any part of said tournament video, pictures and sound bytes as they so choose.
Again, Just My Opinion.

Good points on the strength of conference affiliations for small schools. but as we've seen with the big boys, loyalty means zero.

Is it time to let the power 5 go on with the money grabs and time for a small school conference alignment? I envision a few small school catholic conferences competing. Let the one and done schools kill themselves. I'd rather watch 4 year players compete anyway.
