Other retro products come go as trends or fads. Fads can be risky, but waiting too long to join a trend could mean somebody is too late for optimal profits.

As long as a popular product line is too small for big retailers, small stores can increase profits.

If you want to start or increase a trend, you may have to compete with nonconsumption - http://www.voy.com/31049/1272.html

People may know something exists. They may know what the features are. Your task is showing them benefits they didn't recognize.

Teaming up with other retailers, who can special order products from each other, can reduce the risk of inventory. In effect, it can be like having a big inventory. But there should be a written agreement to specify retailer members' responsibilities.

Below, I have the URL for the article & some excerpts.

As a way to promote their businesses, 700 independent record stores across the nation have joined together since 2008 to celebrate Record Store Day on the third Saturday of April. Record Store Day regularly features limited-edition CDs & vinyl records available only at independent retailers.

The music lovers buying these records aren't necessarily those who grew up with them in the 1960s & 1970s. Record store owners across the nation say teenagers & young adults constitute a large portion of their vinyl customers.

"There are tweens, teens & twentysomethings looking through Mom and Dad's record collection," he says. "All of a sudden Mom & Dad are a lot cooler than the kid might have expected."
