Date Posted: 23:24:58 06/18/12 Mon In reply to: Dr. Fill Full Fool 's message, "Re: This is 1 of the biggest clues - Perception Is Not Reality" on 22:23:16 06/17/12 Sun Hi Dr. Fill Full Fool, Thank you for letting me know about your misunderstanding, you may not be the only person whom I've confused with my inadequate explanation. I need feedback. I realize I write long explanations (too long according to some). Later I try to make them shorter. By doing that, I may edit out what would make my explanations easier to comprehend. 1st, please consider this: IF our perceptions ARE reality, can we ever be wrong when we're sure we're right (perceive ourselves to be right)? If only perceptions are true, what difference would our perceptual filters make? There'd be no reality to filter. What I perceive is - Phil McGraw & I agree on this issue. We express it differently. Why would Phil write a book; if there's no reality, there'd be no book. Though each person perceives what's real differently, there IS a reality. If reality didn't exist (no reality; only perception), it'd be like many people would be in different dimensions without contact between dimensions. There'd be little or no commerce. What could we buy if we don't perceive the same things in similar forms? Example: Person 1: Here, you should eat this banana to preserve your health. Person 2: What banana? All I see is a big rock. I hear you or something with a voice, but since I don't see you, you don't exist. So, why should I pay you for a rock? Besides, that rock is so over-ripe, it's bleeding & rotting. Person 3: Would all 6 of you please shut up! You don't exist, so it's rude of you to talk. By the way, what's a voice? True persuasion is sharing a common reality or fantasy even if things are perceived a bit differently. Without reality, how could a trial attorney persuade a jury? How could the attorney know IF a jury exists? What Does The Future Hold? A psychic tried to earn money by telling people what would happen to them. Nobody believed her predictions. She closed her business because there's no future in it. When dealing with real people in reality, we need to share some base line of truth & hopefully agree about it. A quote attributed to Daniel Patrick Moynihan: 'You are entitled to your opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts.' - OR - You are entitled to your own opinions but not your own set of facts. You & I apparently agree this is a weblog, discussion forum or message board. Since you wrote something & I'm responding, we're sharing some reality. Thank you for sharing. Whatever we perceive & believe affects how strongly we feel about issues. The strength of our feelings affects possible motivations about what we do or don't do. Our actions, based on our beliefs & perceptions, affect & (possibly) make our reality what it is. Most of us have more influence on what happens to us than others. Yet, how motivated could a person be to improve a situation if s/he believes there's no reality? "The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is." - Winston Churchill Yes, people's actions can definitely mess up our plans & lives. We make our reality with our responses & reactions (what we do & don't do). The result from our actions & inactions is reality but results don't always fit our own set of facts. No matter what we want to believe, true reality is objective. In any battle/competition, you can safely bet your enemy/opponent will be rude enough to disrupt your plan. Planning is still vital because good planning involves considering various scenarios. You should consider what may happen & what you can do/how you can respond. Planning is your chance to consider causes & effects. You won't control or stop every cause, but you can affect what a cause does. You can affect the effect. The Future Ain't What It Used To Be In marketing, we need to compare our perceptions with perceptions of people in our market niches. Being as objective as we can be, we should consider whose perceptions are closer to current reality. We also need to compare whose perceptions of the future (predictions) are more realistic. What would make that future reality better for people in our market niches? How can we help them believe in & realize that potential? Dennis S. Vogel thrivingbusiness@email.com People don't necessarily believe what's true, they believe what they perceive as truth. Helping people often starts with helping them with their perceptions.
