Thank you for using this forum/blog.

I can advise you about marketing, but if you need information about liability or accounting & legal issues, you'll need to ask somebody more qualified on those subjects.

You can learn about some things you’ll need before starting a valet business by checking valet service web sites. You can find some with search engines.

Example: If you see many pictures of valets wearing uniforms on many sites, you should figure you’d need to have uniforms. There are uniform stores in some cities, there may be some reputable uniform vendors who market through catalogs &/or web sites. You need to be careful about buying from any business you can’t easily verify.

Some credit card companies let customers dispute charges on their accounts if a product or service wasn’t delivered or is unsatisfactory. So, you may be protected if you buy from a mail order &/or Internet site. 1st, be sure to check the credit card company’s rules before risking a big amount of money.

Some local, state/province & federal governments have their laws posted in their web sites. You could probably get a good idea what a valet service is required to have. If the government web site doesn’t have a search function, you could use Yahoo’s or Google’s advanced search. Some other search engines & portals have advanced search options.

After you click on the “Advanced” link, you’ll get another search page like http://www.ask.com/webadvanced
http://search.yahoo.com/web/advanced?ei=UTF-8
http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en
You can probably highlight, then copy & paste these links into a web browser address/navigation bar.
These pages have links to instructions like Ask.com Advanced Search Tips or a help tab/link.

You Can Observe A Lot By Just Watching. Yogi Berra
Observing other valets, who could be future competitors, will help you determine the currently available services. But you should be aware, experienced valets don’t always perform a service optimally. If there isn’t another affordable valet service in a city, people may settle for a little less quality than they ideally want.

An established business (possible competitor) may be inefficient & have ineffective business practices. You shouldn’t completely copy anything another business does—“proven method”, because it may not be popular with your market niche. What somebody else does may not fit your business model.

Using a great “proven method” can be a bad idea. What proves to be effective & efficient, for another person or business, could hurt somebody else. It could be somewhat like swallowing somebody else’s prescription pill. What may save somebody’s life can end another life.

You can test a “proven method” like I described in other posts:
Get The Marketing Results You Need By Solving Problems http://www.voy.com/31049/945.html
The Leverage Process http://www.voy.com/31049/497.html
Part 5b- Getting Prospects to Try What You Offer http://www.voy.com/31049/364.html

Anybody, who may tell you to use a “proven method” without testing, isn’t much better than a doctor doing surgery on you without listening to what you say about your problem.

Skillful marketers advise prospective clients to evaluate businesses based on a specific list of buying criteria.

When you read or hear anything like that, it could give you ideas about what you should offer & what you’ll need for your business. The lists could be labeled as something other than “Buying Criteria”. You’ll probably recognize a list of what customers should expect when you see or hear it. But these ideas would be things for you to test.

After you determine what your prospective clients should expect from a valet service, you’ll have more ideas about what you should have when you start your business.

When people judge quality based on the criteria you suggest & when you fulfill their expectations, they’re apt to trust you.

I wrote about Buying Criteria is some my posts:
Sidebar 2- The Right Conditions For Profitability & General Buying Criteria http://www.voy.com/31049/743.html
Step 4a- Show You Have What They Want Even If They Don’t Know They Want It Yet http://www.voy.com/31049/359.html

I hope this, plus the other posts, helps you start successfully. If you have any specific questions or need me to clarify something, please add your questions in another message to this subject thread.

Test methods & messages with a small part of your market niche. When you know works with them, you can invest more money to reach more of your market niche. You can use these links to get information you need to decrease the number of tests you’ll need to find what works.
