Okay Katie it’s a break. Matt Lauer sends someone to green room #3 to get Neal and Jon. Neal has been watching the show from the green room totally flipping out. Neal and Jon get on the stage. Steve takes one look then looks at Katie.

SP: “What is going on here Katie? My manager had strict rules for today’s show!”

KC: “Sorry about this Steve ask Matt.”

NS: “Hey Steve glad to see you made the show.”

JC: “Hi Steve. Just like old times except no Ross and Smitty.”

SP: “Is ROSS here!”

KC: “No he’s not. At least I don’t think so.”

NS: “Now the real story will be told.”

SP: “The REAL story.”

JC: “What’s the real story?”

KC: “We will all tell the truth and the real story will come through.”

Steve gets up and goes over to Rachael who is just shaking her head.

JC: “Katie ask Steve about his girlfriend?’

NS: “Yeah ask him. LIVE and on the air.”


JC & NS: “Katie that’s her Steve’s girlfriend. You gotta ask him about her.”

KC: “I’m doing this interview. We’ll see. That’s Steve’s girlfriend?”

NS & JC: “Oh yeah!

SP: “Rachael this is a disaster waiting to happen. I can not go on there. The interview is OVER!”

RW: “Steve wait. This could be good. If the 3 of you agree on what happened then no on will believe Ross. Finish out the interview. Just finish it out.”

Ok Katie we are back in 10…9…8…7…6...5…4…3…2…1

KC: “Here we are back with Steve Perry formerly of Journey. We are now joined by Neal Schon and Jon Cain both of Journey. Welcome to the show. You both have been sitting here listening to what Steve had to say. I’d like to know what you think. Neal…”

NS: “Well Katie, if I may call you Katie. The party was great I had great time. Jon throws one wild party.”

JC: “Oh yeah. One wild one.”

SP: “Neal why do you always do that. Make things out to be something they are not?”

NS: “I do not.”

SP: “Do to!”

KC: “Jon please explain in your words what happened.”

JC: “Well Steve wouldn’t make the party mix with us. He told Steve Augeri some funy stories about Neal and…

SP: “WHAT!”

NS: “You have to say Steve, you wouldn’t make the mix with us. We asked you. So this outside guy thing is your fault if you still feel that way.”

Neal turns to Jon and they both smile and giggle. Rachael looking on from the side can’t believe what is happening here.

KC: “So how did Herbie get back in Casa da Crazy?”

SP: “Herbie went crazy once again and had to be taken away. He ate all the party mix, had one too many drinks from the bar. Grabbed the mike from Steve Augeri and when Steve tried to get the mike back he landed Steve one right in the chops.”

KC: “Do you agree Jon?”

JC: “True but Herbie would have done that if Steve would not have laughed at Herbie dressed as Santa. Steve you did laugh first.”

SP: “That’s it! I can’t sit here and be accused like this. I was not the only one to laugh at Herbie. You laughed, Neal laughed, Ross and Smitty laughed. Even Ansley and Gregg laughed. You did have to admit Herbie did look bad in that outfit. Look at the gifts we all got. They were mean and spirited gifts. I was not amused at all by Herbie!”

JC: “Sorry Mr. I didn’t feel like part of the band but I loved my gift from Herbie.”

SP: “You did then. Well then Jon think about the gift. Who would get a man a box of chocolates and the latest Danielle Steel novel? Neal look at the Gift you got from Herbie diapers and baby food. What was Herbie saying with these gifts?”

KC: “Neal any comment to what Steve has just said?”

NS: “Okay the gifts were cheesy and in bad taste. At least it was the thought that counts.”

SP: “Sure, like it took a lot of thought on Herbie’s part.”

KC: “Steve, Jon and Neal before we go I would like to ask you a few questions off the subject if you don’t mind?”

NS: “Sure Katie you can.”

JC: “Just a few?”

SP: “Okay Katie.”

KC: “Jon now that the band is on a break what will you be doing for the holidays?”

JC: “I’ll be enjoying the time off to spend it with my family.”

KC: “Neal when will the band be in the studio again and when do you expect a new single and album to come out?”

NS: “Well Katie we are taking that needed break and hope to get in the studio very soon we are hoping for a spring release of new material.”

KC: “Now Steve tell us what you are up to and please tell us about your girlfriend that I’ve been hearing so much about? Her name is Rachael?”

SP: “Katie I like to keep my private life private. Right now I’m working on a jingle for Harley Davidson. They are celebrating 100 years and have asked me to star in the commercial and sing the jingle which I’m currently writing.”

KC: “Can you at least acknowledge that there is truth to the rumor and you do have that special lady in life?”

With that Steve looks to his right for a brief moment and Rachael just nods her head for Steve to say something anything.

KC: “Steve?”

SP: “Sorry Katie I will tell you only this. There is truth to the rumor. I do have someone in my life right now. It’s a good relationship. The best for me in years.”

With hearing those words Katie Couric suddenly becomes pale and faints live and on the air. They have to take a quick commercial break to revive Katie.

Producer: “Someone quick, get the smelling salts. This can’t be happening!”

They get the smelling salts and revive Katie Couric after about a minute.

KC: “Sorry. That was just not like me at all.”

Katie back in 5…4…3…2…1

JC: “See what I said Neal. I was right. Women fainting the headlines.”

NS: “Jon enough.”

KC: “Steve my final question is for you…”

Hearing that Neal goes ballistic.

NS: “Final question. Steve gets the final question. I have been sitting here playing second fiddle. Well I won’t DO IT ANYMORE!”

KC: “Neal please we are on air.”

NS: “*&@#$% the air. I’ve been fed up with you Mr. Single guy. You walk around like we all owe you. Well, YOU OWE ME and NOW it’s time for you to pay up buddy!”

Neal gets up. Jon tries to stop him and gets pushed back and falls over the chair. Katie Couric gets up and stands in front of Steve. Who at the time is trying to get up but can’t because Katie is now sitting in his lap. Neal goes beserk and throws his chair at the producer which missed him completely. Finally Matt Lauer is called in from the street corner outside the studios to come in to pull Katie off Steve. When Katie finally gets up Neal goes to sock Steve and hits Matt Lauer right square in the nose. Jon is crawly on the ground to get away from Neal when Steve stands before Jon’s hands and helps Jon up. Neal turns around to see Steve and lunges right at Steve knocking him clean off his feet. Rachael comes running in from the right of stage to be confronted by Katie who is trying to stop her. Rachael pushed Katie out of the way. Neal and Steve are grappling on the floor for what seems like a good 5 minutes. Finally Jon, Matt and security finally pull Neal off Steve. When all is said and done Neal has another black eye, bloody nose and split lip. Steve has a cut above the eye that really needs medical attention, a bloody nose plus a deep cut on the top lip.

RW: “Steve are you okay? You need to get that eye looked at let’s get you to the hospital.”

SP: “I’m fine. What happened here? I can’t believe it. Neal is getting to be like Herbie. I can’t deal with this. Live and on the air and he attacks me. ATTACKS ME!” Steve looking at Neal. “WE WERE LIKE FAMILY MAN!”

Soon the word around the studio is that Steve needs medical attention. Every women at the studio rushes to offer mouth the mouth recessataion and TLC. Rachael keeps them at bay.

Katie we are back on the air in 5…4…3…2…1

KC: “Well folks there you have a rebuttle to Ross Valory’s comments. On tomorrow’s show we will talk to a women who has lost both her family and animals in the Sept 11. bombing. This is Katie Couric…”

ML: “This is Matt Lauer.”

ML & KC: “Have a great day.”

Rachael takes Steve to the NYC Medical center. Where the ER doctor is looking at him.

ERD: “Mr. Perry you are going to need stitches above the eye and I think it would wise to sew up the lip too. I’ll have the nurse come in and give you something for the pain and a shot to numb the lip and above the eye.”

SP: “Okay.”

RW: “Steve I feel horrible about this. Maybe we should have given a statement instead.”

SP: “It’s okay who would have thought that Jon and Neal were coming. I had no idea that Neal had those feelings.”

Out at the nurses station the nurses were fighting on who was going to give Steve the meds and a shot. They had to draw straws.

N: “Okay Mr. Perry here is something for the pain. I’ll be back in a moment with the shot.”

SP: “Sure thing.”

N: “Okay the doctor will be right in. I’ll leave the shot here. So tell me how did this happen?’

SP: “It happened on the Today show. Long story. Not worth telling.”

N: “Oh I did see the show. Didn’t see the end though. I didn’t hear your answer to Katie’s question if you have someone in your life or not. Do you?”

Steve looks at Rachael who just shrugs. Steve thinks for moment.

SP: “Yes I do have someone sp….”

Hearing that the nurse looks pale and faints dead away. The doctor comes in to see this and has the nurse taken to a room.

ERD: “What happened here? Why did she faint?’

SP: “I’m not sure why. She asked me if I had a special someone and I said yes.”

Rachael just stands off to the side laughing. Trying not to let Steve her. Finally they leave the ER go back to the hotel to pack. They had no time to spare if they were going to catch the red eye back to L.A.

SP: “I’m sorry. I should have been honest with Katie on the girlfriend thing but with Neal and Jon there, I just couldn’t…

Rachael cutting Steve off…

RW: “I know. You don’t have to explain a thing to me. I don’t mind.”

SP: “I feel horrible about this. Accept my apology?”

RW: “Apology accepted.”

As they are in the airport Rachael goes over the news stand to get a magazine to read on the plane. Steve decides to get the NY Times. He picks up the special edition. He turns over to see the front page: KATIE COURIC FAINTS ON THE TODAY SHOW AFTER STEVE PERRY TELLS HER HE IS IN A RELATIONSHIP, THE BEST FOR HIM IN YEARS.

RW: “Steve what’s wrong?”

Steve hands Rachael the newspaper and shows her the front page.

SP: “How do you explain that?”

RW: “The girl can’t help it? I told you Steve the women still love you.”

With that Steve starts to laugh.

SP: “You know this trip was not a disaster after all. You do have to look back at it with a laugh.”

RW: “I guess your right Steve, besides you do look good in stitches.”

American Airlines flight 171 to Los Angeles now boarding at gate 13.
