Since it is a chance for every body to try HTML,
Ifll write a real simple instruction page for beginners.
Starting from how to up load files on to web.
This could also be useful for people who will join the project in the future.

Does any one know where you can get free spaces?
We will use it as a space for every one.

It will be nice if somebody will get it for me,
because Ifm not good at reading English.

and a site where you can get free FTP software for Mac.
I only now Japanese website, though the software is in
English and its for PC.

What do you think?
Itfs going to be a good training for me (^-^)

Hey Taka, welcome back :)

So you want spaces yeah? Web space or just file storage space? With Geocities or Anglefire or whatever free website space, you can upload everything the that site with a single login and password, but all the files will display as a list of filenames.... is it what you want? I don't know how much spaces you can take now... A few years ago when I first sign one up.... it's 10 MB.

What about FTP? This is, comparatively, a more compliacted process. I normally uses CuteFTP (in a PC, I don't know if you have it in a MAC).... and then I crack it so it won't expire in 30 days.... But now we don't have a common space.... I don't know any of the free FTP sites that provide free webspace. My net friend who is doing web-hosting said he'll give me some space within weeks for free. But it's Hong Kong based, and I don't want to confuse anybody~

Oh, another method is the web drive.... like what they have in IDrive or MyDrive...? You can store and share files up there, also with a common login and p/w. It acts the same as the free website space stuff. I think it's Idrive that has the "album" function that allows image display. But recently I receive an email from Idrive saying that I'll only have 5MB of space....it used to be 20MB..... But if u downsize all the image files it won't be a problem.

Btw, I've changed the display format of the forum. Now you can see a whole list of replies under a single thread. It's the format they use in some game forums. It still works clearly if you've 100 followup posts. But the problem is you cannot choose who to reply now, so address the person u'r responsing to either in your subject, or in the message. Thanks!

Jenny, what I am going to do is what you have done already.
How to show images and make use link in this forum.
Including how to up load the file.

I donft know how many people will actually try and do it, but if this forum stays till 2003, it is worth doing it.
By the time they got use to it, may be they can get their own space.

So the space will be used only as storage.

Ifm using WS_FTP and it is a freeware so that will do for PC.
So the problem is Mac. What do Henry and Max use?
If there is no problem of using cracked FTP, that will be the final solution.

The complicated process?
The characteristic of ID is making the simple navigation!! hehehe.
Anyway, I donft know every function so Ifll only show how to up load and delete the files.
And may be how to make your own directory.

In the actual instuction,
I will use visual like below.

-----------------------------------------

If you write like thiscc

it will be shown like this.

Hey Jenny! take a look at this!
you'll love it.

-----------------------------------------

so do you think Geocities or Angelfire is good?
I don't really know how much space is OK.
I'll ask Max about this.

Taka

Ah-ha, so you'll write instructions for the forum...? I forget that we can use images... So if you're taking the job, please do so, and do it as a separated thread with a proper title.

Then the file size won't be a very serious problem. BTW, I guess IE or Netscape also have their own FTP program. You don't have to do the illegal stuff all the time though~

But the problem is that now we only have half of the core group actively involved in this forum...

>But the problem is that now we only have half of the core group actively involved in this forum...

yeah thats true.
and i don't know what people are thinking about relation between the web and the magazine.
most poeple are just thinking about the magazine and it's going to start seriously after the holiday, right?
May be we should not worry too much about the magazine and start building our own AND website.

Logo is important, but it doesnft mean that we have to wait for it to begin the site.

any ideas for the site?

the kind of industry standard is a freeware program called fetch try www.tucows.com otherwise stick with the one in dreamweaver/ netscape/ie.

I think we shold try not to delve too deeply into web design on this forum, maybe an idea would be to have a seperate forum on web design? Otherwise it could just end up becoming a sort of intimidating techie forum.

Ha~
We're not doing technical support here!
But how many people really want this kind of support?
Or do they prefer 1-2-1 tutorial?? (dumb kids like me prefer that~ for free!!)

Yeah, maybe taka you can do an external link to the instruction page, but necessarily posting it in the forum~
If you don't mind the useless ad banner sticking on top of your page.

Anyway, you decide how to do it! AHhhh~ (running nuts!)
