Kepdawg one of the regular posters down at the Allcoast Private boaters board picked up three today, and lost another within 47 miles of SD. He said he was in visual range of the coronado's on the way back, so closer than 47. He's on the board alot, doesn't post B.S. so I'd call it confirmed. The rumour is their on a 170 heading which puts them a lot closer to shore than they've been in years. I've got a theory about this. I think the reason the seabass bite was so good this year is the colder water due to La~nina. The colder water kept the squid and whites around much longer. This may work in our favor for the Alby's as well. The usually circle well outside skirting the warmer inside water. Most people don't know it but Albacore prefer fairly cool water 61 to 63 is about ideal. Most years the majority follow the edge between the warm inshore water and the cool water of the California current. This year with the current conditions they may stay inside, coming right up the coast. All the old timers I know talk of past years when they migrated inside up through Catalina channel. No records exist but it wouldn't surprise me if those miracle years (it didn't happen that often) may of had La nin~a conditions. Guys up north where the waters always cooler catch them in close: 5 to 8 miles offshore. Imagine large shools of Alby's 5 miles off Newport or Rocky point. Could be trouble (the kind of trouble I like). With the cooler water this year it just might happen.

Tight lines Jim
