Early in the season Barricuda are the best bait and the best chum. Often on the way out we'll stop on a Barracuda school and load up. When I see the birds working I know it's going to be a great day. I like to rig a whole Barry for trolling usind a double slide hook rigg I've developed the bigger the better. Rats sometimes ruin the bait but I've caught some big dawgs doing this. When chumming I use the whole front half with two hooks as well. Might sound like the bait is too big but the larger Mako's like the bigger baits. Often Mike will catch several rats on fillets then a 100+ monster will inhale the half barricuda. In fact one time we had chummed for several hours with nothing but babes, I finally switched to the half barry rig and instantly hooked up to a 150lb'r. I think that biggger shark was sitting back in the chumline just waiting for a full meal. Bottom line Barries are great mako bait.

Tight lines Jim
