Subject: Checking In- back from SD

Hi everyone, just checking in to see how everyone is. We just returned from an incredible trip to South Dakota. We stayed in Custer State Park by Sylvan Lake. Such beautiful country!! We did so many different things. On our Buffalo Jeep Safari ride we got caught in a short rainstorm, blowing wind, etc. and our guide found a satellite group of buffalo we drove up to. They were amazing and then at one point they all started running into the woods- of course I forgot I had my video camera in my purse- but what a memory! I enjoyed the horseback ride through the park (though my husband and son didn't)- I could just imagine SFM out there enjoying the great outdoors. Finn- have you ever been to South Dakota? It also saddens me to see the history of how we've treated the Native Americans in our country. Crazy Horse has an amazing museum and history. Also, the history and hardships of those who settled on the land. I don't think I could have done it. Well, I've babbled long enough. Time to get productive! Finn- I hope you are well and look forward to a post from you at some point on the board. Hope your being busy is a good thing and that you are enjoying your work. Take care everyone!

Wow that Buffalo Jeep Ride sounds awesome!!! I've always wanted to go horseback riding where the buffalo roam
:-). Its different going horseback riding in Maine, where the Moose roam.

It was really cool Nancy. I haven't been on a horse since I was probably 11 and I loved it! I was hoping we'd see a bison while on the trails, but we didn't. When we were on the jeep ride we also saw a few yellow bellied marmots- cute kind of animal. I would love to go to Maine sometime, our kids piano teacher is from there. And one animal I hope to see in the wild someday is a moose! They told us a bison can get to 35 MPH in about 3 seconds, can turn faster than a horse. They also said to watch their tails. If down- all is okay. If part way up- give them some room, and if up all the way- you're in trouble! They have a round up the end of July in Custer then people purchase them for private heards, or restaurants. Hopefully someday we'll be able to go back and see it. Have a great day!
