Subject: Jonathan Frid

one of my favorite actors/"vampires" from my high school days ...
- nope, I don't have a "goth" or morbid fascination for "blood-sucking bats" ...
- but, I do admire an actor's ability to create such characters as "Barnabas Collins" whom I would rush home to see every afternoon.

Sometimes I wonder what "behind the scenes" was like on a film set such as this ...
admist all the "mystery and suspense" there had to have been some humorous moments for the actors and crew...
from what I've read, Frid was "classically trained" as an actor - not being an actor myself I have an idea but, I'm not sure of all that it would entail being trained in that manner - however I'm almost certain that Shakespeare would play a part ...
anyways, "here's jon"! :)

I think it would be fun and interesting to hear some stories of live / stage performances in which Stewart was involved. Especially from the "early years"

Well, I have a few letters around here somewhere from Jonathan Frid. Many years ago I wrote some poetry for a few Dark Shadows Fanzines and Mr. Frid liked them so much that he sent me a very unexpected letter and thank you note. I translated one poem into Spanish for him and he was excited because he was studying Spanish at the time. He was classically trained but Dark Shadows paid better. He is around 85 or 86 and living in Canada.

It will be interesting to see how Johnny Depp portrays Barnabas Collins in the new movie. Depp is not one of my favorite actors although I loved his performance in "Benny and June".

ya know, as much as i've enjoyed johnny depp's performances ...
- especially as "Captain Jack Sparrow"!

- for me, there will only be one "Barnabas Collins ...
- Jonathan Frid!!! :)

*** kinda like "Doc MacNeill"
- could you imagine anyone else in that role?! :)

- i think that's "very cool" in re: fo the gift you gave to Mr. Frid, and the manner in which he responded to you, Deb! :)

i can understand in some ways why certain individuals would aspire to become an actor
... especially those with an "artistic soul"
- yet, moving in and out of character ...
- back and forth
- from "work" to "reality" ...
- i wonder what [if any] types of challenges that presents to a professional actor?
